Linda Vaughn is really a nice lady. In 2013 when I had my avatar car at Autorama, I was next to the GM display where they had photograph sessions. She was there with several other celebrities. She stopped and talked to me twice just being as nice as she could be. I remember her fondly from back in the late 60s. Linda and drag racing are kind of inter-connected IMO.

I see 65 pacecar posted the 58 Vette Red Baron (and Little Caesar-same car) owned and raced by Neil Hinkle. Sadly it was destroyed in an on track incident. 58crash7x_d40n0.jpg

Jim, about that same time 2013ish my wife went with me to the US 30 reunion in York. We were for some reason sitting outside on a bench when Linda and Bub Faubel came walking up arm in arm. Linda in all of her normal getup and Bud in a bright red leisure suit. I of course followed her with my eyes as long as I could until my wife says in a nasty voice, who is THAT. When I said that's Linda Vaughn she goes and how do you know THAT. I said everyone knows that. It was a long quiet ride home.

During the early 70s I had entered an AHRA event at Orange County Raceway. A good friend from my baseball days rode along to the track on Sunday morning to watch final eliminations. We were leaning on the fender in the staging lanes, watching Linda make her way from the pits, around the tower, toward the starting line area. As per the usual practice of the day, we were appreciating her from afar when, with no warning, she turned in our direction and walked over, stopped, and asked how we were doing. My friend, usually quick with a quip and a sometimes questionable sense of humor was struck dumb and could not form an oral response. After that brief greeting, Linda continued on her way to the head of the staging lanes. When the excitement had abated, I needled my friend about his lack of response to her simple question. Under pressure he resorted to the standard excuse of a power hitter who had shanked a fast-breaking curveball, "I started to swing away but she jammed me!"

    True story!

Not to interrupt the good mammaries but I just heard that Bandimere NHRA track will be closing after this year. Development has been moving closer, it was just a matter of time. I've never been to races there but just driving by on the road that runs parallel it was LOUD as there is a rock mountain on the far side to direct the noise back out.

This site is one where I do whatever I can to stay away from the management. Hopefully that will continue with this post concerning Linda Vaughan. As most of you are aware there was a great thread dedicated to Linda. At some point, according to those who control the buttons, said that Linda and family requested the thread be pulled. It was.

The era of drag racing, and I should say motorsports in general because she took her talents to most forms of the sport we love was huge. She was perhaps one of the finest ambassadors and certainly one of the most recognizable faces in motorsport. So I am not certain exactly what happened but when that thread disappeared so did a great deal of automotive history and that is a true loss. It gave some recognition not only to the professionals but the weekend warriors as well. The thread showcased people, places, cars and some amusing off beat things as well. The centre of the focus was usually Linda so why the change of heart after being the face of Hurst and others did she want the thread pulled? I have no idea but you are welcome to flame away.

Let's just say there was a certain lack of taste in some of the members' postings, case closed.

Linda always and still on occasion represents all racing with class. A treasure to drag racing for sure.

The junior high type comments from some of the members here were rude and uncalled for. also not to mention the fact that there is nothing on topic about a picture of her with a 1970's or 1980's Olds cutlass. I can't tell you how much heat I took from some members that had their too new pictures deleted "why is my stuff off topic when there are hundreds of pics with Linda and 1980's Oldsmobiles" I got tired of it and finally deleted the thread. It was only after it was gone that Ryan received communication from the family that they were all so relieved that it was finally gone. there is the story now DROP IT

This pic of the 4 together is beautiful! '63 without the front bumper plus a big block hood, the HT convert next to it has one, too. Absolutely perfect wheel / tire combos. Notice how awesome the cars look with bi plys!

Well said. It seems the language here has changed dramatically just in the last few years. And it's not for the better. I admit to not being as excited as I used to be when signing in.
