been workin on my 56 ,nosed ,decked ,shaved..yada yada ...looking for some more examples ...got any shots of 55-56 mercury customs?
That B & W one is a '56....Chek out the latest issue of CK DeLuxe...Bo Huffs' '56 is in there. Always had the hots for a '56 Merc, never have owned one tho...good looking car. R-
Here's a couple from the "Kustom Corner". It's a lycos site and they're not too good about linking pictures, so you'll have to click on em... http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/1/1956mercury.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/2/auto52.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/3/kkoa052.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/3/kkoa132.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/4/see089.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/5/rhin24.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/7/hal104.jpg http://membres.lycos.fr/kustomcorner/mercury/merc5260/7/hal105.jpg
It's hard to tell from that pic, but that black and white '56 is sectioned several inches. I saw it out in Vegas. I've got some undeveloped pics of a mid '50s Merc that Paul Bragg is working on...I think it's a '55, but it might be a '54 now that I think about it. I'll scan and post them whenever I get a chance.
This is my favorite Mid fifties Merc. The addition of the 56 Olds bumper & a wacked 67 Camaro front bumper for a grill. I would have chromed the front bumper. Happy Trails, Mick
I think a '57 Desoto front bumper is a natural for that car. Also, I prefer the '55 side trim to the '56. Reason being, I think they just curved the door trim into a downward curve while retaining the straight '55 fender trim and it looks like it's "bent" at the door line. Also, that fake scoop chrome thing on the 1/4 panel hump has got to be made a real scoop. I think all factory fake chrome bolt on scoops should be made "real" on all customs. That "U" of chrome that is under the side windows on the "uppity" models can look good on a same year Ford because it didn't come on a Ford but I think it kinda looks busy on the Mercury, unless you stay with a mild custom and use it to separate two-tone paint. If you really get into bodywork you can french the headlight hoods, but it would entail reproducing the shape in sheet metal.
I thought that red one looked too "New Dodge Ram-like" with the red paint and cross in the grille... <img src=http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid79/pdf25b6a1829aaf8e9d8d14a5485b5436/fb14eaf8.jpg> That blue Merc ROCKS, though!
Keartbreaker, go to Carnut.com, look for Index of pictures(rt side of page)GO TO 1952-1959 TON OF Merc Pix ( look for 50 under mercs)
Hey found your threat on the HAMB from about 3 years about. I too am building a 56 Merc, just getting started. Thinking about doing something different with the headlights....its already getting shaved (cept side trim) and slammed. What did you end up doing to yours? Mine, 56 Medalist 2dr post.
I've got a '55 Merc wagon in progress. http://www.glennsplace.com/55_merc.htm Anyone need any sedan taillights? I bought a really NICE pair by mistake not knowing that the wagons were different. Glenn
My computer with all of my pics is out of order right now.... Anybody have any pics of Laura's merc of the Fender Skirts CC? There was a purple one I saw in Paso this year too.....anybody have pics of it? You should see it though. If I can retrieve those pics, I'll post them.
"Pretty cool car" is a bit of an understatement. This Winfield 56 Lincoln is imho one of the best if not THE best 56 Lincoln customs ever. Everythign on this car is just absolutely perfect. When I saw this great custom in the Custom Rodder so many years ago, I just could not believe my eyes. This car was so long and so low and so graceful and then the paintjob! I had never seen a better color combo on a paintjob like this one (perhaps the original Jade Idol paint job comes close). And the the new wide taillights and reshaped rear fenders. Absolute perfection. The interior is perhaps a bit 80's 90's, but it all fits the luxery custom theme perfectly. I hope you will redo the original fade paint job, and hopefully you will also go back to the original 56 Lincoln hubcaps with only the bullets added but without the extra spinners, as they where on it when it original built. The new hubcaps are nice, but I always like the more simple version better. You are one lucky person. Good luck with the restoration.
ok here it goes...not to steal this thread, but there seems to be interest..the car is going to be orange and still have the fades..all new interior.the chop is awesome..the worst part is that the car will be going to a museum..too bad because it drives like a dream..here are some sickening progress pics..
I will buy a couple paint chips of that custom. Thanks as always for the pictures Rik. "The Royal Empress" ........was a John D'A car right? Definately one of the best built customs ever.
