  2. I had the joy of having a nutsert spin free with a stainless 10-32 half way down, I had to cut the head off to separate the two aluminum panels then tediously grind the nutsert off the aluminum panel so I could replace it. Ugh ....

Slowly heating carter afb with diesel garage heater til it smokes a little and you barely can touch it by hands.
Gentle tapping, rust penetrant and patient...
Little progress at time the throthle shafts starts to move and no they work as should.
One step forwards again. 167974221968432929469654061554.jpg 16797424627718686189321915612393.jpg

Does yesterday count. I completed my gauge replacement in my 59 ElCamino with Nos gauges for temp and gas, a working speedo, and led bulbs, so I can see my functioning gauges. I evicted Micki and Minni mouse, double checked my upper control arm and spring replacement, and drove it for the first time this year. Now it's raining again, and it's back in the garage. Next new tires and hubcaps

It's been a while since I've posted, sold the house and downsizing before some US travel.
My painter finally got around to putting some colour on the doors, trunk and fenders. All that's left is the hood, front fenders, door caps, gravel shields and boot scrapers.
I located some OEM style bitumen impregnated cardboard sheeting and will line inside of trunk rather than using dynamat.
I couldn't wait to see what my NOS Hydramatic emblem looked like. I still need to adjust doors. I located some tan webbing to insulate rear fenders, love the colour. A lot better than black or other available colours.

Slow progress, I just finished the entire interior and dynmatted both front doors. I've only have 1 x sheet left for transmission cover. 4 x large boxes in total to cover the entire interior, roof, floors, firewall, trunk! Internal doors may look flat however there are a LOT of different contours, pressings and recesses etc that need to be worked to remove air bubbles and enhance adhesion. Measure twice, cut once with no wastage!
Front 1/4 glasses are in along with vertical division bar, all new rubbers and window run channels from Steele. A PITA to source and replace those small 1/4 glass rivets. Car should be nice and quiet and well insulated now.

    Just planning.
Should put some air in back tire for my wifes 63 2d sedan monterey, so she could drive it.
Should do something for my 64 cadillac project, and my woodgas powered 80 c10 455 pickup.
Also consider something more "economical" daily summer beater instead of current 92 c1500 454 pickup...or should injust drive with winter beater...
    70 MB 220d...
Well attleast my monterey convertible is out and ready to go cruisin.. 16818348926856548007051604943453.jpg

With temperatures rising it became possible to work on the car again so I got the shifter cover finished and then progressed to pulling the steering wheel off to sort out the horn and blinker cancelling mechanism issues, only to discover my puller only has metric screws. Am in Europe and out in the sticks so no chance of getting the correct items til next weeko_O. Oh well.

Never had to use a puller. Just loosen the nut holding the steering wheel on. Spin it to loosen so just a few threads stick out of the nut. Then sit in the car and put your hands BEHIND the wheel and slap it vigorously with your palms, alternating sides, it should pop off until it stops at the loosened nut. Remove the nut and wheel. :)

Took my F100 on its first proper trip today, almost been two years. Brakes are very average and lots of oil coming out rocker cover gasket on the 240. Surprised with how well it goes, plenty of guts to it.

That's exactly what I used to do until I found out these Caliente steering wheels are $220 and upwards used (as in with cracks). In the US...

Put a rebuild kit in the fuel pressure regulator, reinstalled the trunk hinge pin that fell out, adjusted the idle mixture and choke, went for a drive.

Took the '39 Chev out of winter hibernation and gave it a quick rinse off. Then filled it with gas and took it for a morning drive! Summer has finally arrived here!

I hope to get to the track again, so I came up with a pair of slicks all though the Hoosier dirt track tires did work pretty good. I feel like something up is in the rear end , but with everything being mounted solid things can be hard to sort out. So I thought I would take a look and see what's up back there. I pulled the axles and how weird is that, one bearing is rusted up and the other is not. I took it off and cut it open and it was still fine but the grease was pretty well gone. That is something you would see on a truck that has spent it's life backing in the lake. The axle showed a little color so maybe it was running hot.
I would like to put a little more gear in it but I don't know if I have it in me. At least it has a spool, if it had a unit I would never be able to handle it under the truck. It has a 4.10 a 56 or 4.88 would sure make it more responsive ! LOL But I plan on pulling it apart to see how things look anyhow. That is my random thoughts for this morning. Today I've been having some more fun scraping, wire brushing, and wire wheeling the grease and crud off the old C4 transmission for my '48 F1 Panel before the trans goes off for a rebuild.

I got my slicks mounted on some N.O.S Cragar chrome reverse wheels. Took the driveshaft to get the balance checked and upon closer inspection the rear yoke on the shaft is worn out allowing the caps to rotate. So we are going to upgrade that to a yoke with a 1350 joint. No big deal right, just have to change the pinion yoke also. Well I want to say the torque spec on the pinion is like 200 or 250 ft lbs. Wow what a pain that turned into. When Moser built this axle not only did they torque it down they loctited it in place. Three times getting the pinion nut red hot and it finally was off. So a little progress for a old guy. DSCN2691.JPG

    * this link apparently doesn't work. Scroll down a few posts and you'll find a video from YouTube that should work*

This is my first attempt at posting a YouTube video so I hope it works.

My FED is one step closer to a couple test run passes after yesterday's testing of the transmission, driveline and brakes. This is starting to seem real.:)
