Did HE get it locked? Or did all the assholes and idiot newbies on this board talk a lot of shit that really wasn't needed and get it locked? Like he said last time, if all you're going to do is talk the cars down, just shut up.

If you can't improve the silence, keep your mouth shut.

i like the cut cowl, trim it out a bit more for clearance and box it in for a clean look. esp cool that youre running a 6, keep at it and post some progress pics.

yeah, the cut cowl is cool. I'd open it a little bit more and edge it in with some black rubber.

Nice shit man and screw the rest of'em, and don't apologize because u don't have some thirty thousand dollar cookie cutter hot rod. A good chunk of these guys who talk shit on the phrase "ratrod" was all over that word 8-10 yrs ago when it was the "Kool" thing to say. Most of them more then likely put grease in their hair and cuffed their jeans. Now they're bald and to fat to reach the bottom of their pant legs so they have it out for the younger guys. Shit, paint and metalflake is the new black primer and red wheels and I bet when everyone jumps on that band wagon it'll go back to primer or suede. So dam guys back the hell up atleast its American. Sometimes the bullshit on here comes pretty close to out weighing the knowledge.

Just a thought, but what might look cool is if you could trim the edges of the cut cowl with some 90 degree bent stainless strips and rivets. Kind of give it a finished look.

This thread WAS locked....not because of the poster...just stupid comments about these cars from members on the board.Comments about a car that people know NOTHING about.
Got questions....ask....just don't cut a guy a new asshole because you think you know all and everything about hotrods.

screw calling it a rat rod!!! put some fake rust on it and call it """traditional"""...Its your car do what you want with it!As long as you dig its cool!

Its funny how a car can have black primer and red wheels and mexican blankets with a fake rat sitting on the dash holding a sign that says RAT ROD one year .... be stripped of the primer and be douched in rust promoter and have airplane seats in it with a sign saying fuck Rat Rods the next year!

Hey kids get off the rebelling kick with hot rodding! No matter what cool name you come up with next year it will still be a fucking HOT ROD!!!!

Remember boys and girls...Your idols( Dutch, Barris,Roth,Foose) are famous for building showcars that win "gasp" trophies! The original Rodders from the 50's and 60's that you look up to are the GoldChainers you talk shit about today! EVOLVE ..buy some paint...THEY DID!

    good job highboy

  15. definitely cool rides

i do like the red one with the cut cowl.. The motor actually becomes part of the body line. As i said in the locked post it gives it a look that reminds me of an old school tractor. I dig it.. The right grill shell (i'm thinking 28-29 model a) and the right headlight placement could give this rod a really different and cool look. Keep up the good work.

The whole reason I think alot of people are into this forum is because we want to build cars that not everyone likes. Personally I want to piss some people off with what I build. If your building a ride to please everybody else and everyone thinks your car is just peachy, isnt that a little boring? Most of the cars posted on here go against 90% of what most people would build. Even If I hate how someone has built there ride, if its different than the norm it makes it interesting to me. It gets yer brain thinkin. Even if its just to say damn, I'd never do it that way! Just make sure its rode worthy!

  17. Huh? Maybe I'm lost here, but why would anyone trash another guys car just because it looks different? Personally, I don't particularly og for the "rat rod" look on many of these "traditional" cars, but damn,,,most have incredible thinking and elbo grease behind them. And, that's good enough for me. Especially if if doesn't have sbc in it...I'm cool with it.

    Highboy -

I haven't seen the earlier posts, and don't intend to bother with them.

These are however, pretty unique-looking cars. When I saw you guys were from Kansas, it made me think of the days back in the early '60s when I used to go to the dirt track races here in the Lincoln, Nebraska area.

There were a group of Kansas guys who would show up ocassionally with what they called "HooDoo Wagons", essentially VERY early open-wheel sprinters made with home-made "race-car bodies" on basically stock frames (all the locals were still running fenderless early Ford and Chevy coupes). The "Kansas HooDoos" were pretty wierd looking to us Nebraskans, but they kicked ass - and it wasn't long until that type of car became the norm at all the area dirt tracks.

Anyway, I thought "HooDoo Wagons" might be a good description of what you two are doing - especially since the term harkens back to some early Kansas tradition.

The Hot Rods are looking good with the straight sixes. Remember stance is
very important, so you might want to lower them some more. Ha,Ha...
Welcome aboard and I can't wait to see them in person some day.

    Happy Trails,

cool rides , the way that the engine is backed into the cowl reminds me of some pics from the 40's of saltlake racers. some guys used to set the engine back so far that they had to reach in through the cowl vent to change the back plugs. if you are looking for other ideas Don Montgomery's books have been a great help with my build.

I was the dick, and a few others that got this thread locked....maybe. It was the fact that the thread was titled "look at these turds" and some agreed that got things off to a bad start.
Sometimes young 'uns ask for it.
I sent this fella an apology.
I'm glad you're doing your own thing, I'm not gonna say I'm entirely impressed by these cars, but I am gonna give you kudos for doing shit yourself.

But above all, keep things safe, and I still maintain that with the 4 door, God forbid, if it has a tire blow out there could be dire consequences.

    Best of luck.

There was a Model A roadster in The Rodders Journal awhile back with an inline six cut into the cowl....pretty damn NICE!
I'd say box the cowl around the motor like others have said and use blind rivits.
Keep us posted on progress.....I'd like to see how it turns out.

Well I used to live in Kansas so...

Also, If you trim the edges with the stainless and rivets try to find at least 2 more places on the car to use some stainless and rivets as well. That would really give the car a thought out feel to it. IMO

  27. Thumbs up for stickin' around in the face of some shitty attitudes. You'll learn A LOT here, I've only been here a short while but I sure have! Don't forget to check the classifieds, ebay ain't the only place to find parts.

Question about the red one with the close cut cowl...

Has any thought been given to engine twist with that setup and how it is so close to the cowl? Seems to me that when you throttle up there will be some frame flex as well as engine mount flex that is really going to do a number on the tin work there.

Good looking rides though and props to ya for using the stovebolt, I always thought it would be a neat engine to put in something besides a truck
