Mercy. Never had it done, but was the tank “lined/coated” with something?

Nope. It had that fuel cell in it. Had foam in it, but it was intact. Unless it was something from that foam. It has a new steel tank in it now, so I guess we'll see what happens. That's twice with this Holley, and it did the same thing with the Edelbrock that I had on it momentarily. Sure explains why it wouldn't pull the other day lol

Do you think that's ethanol causing it? I just pull up to the pump and put gas in it, but I'll start looking for non ethanol if that's the problem. I always put 93 in it, but that's all I look at.

yes that is what happens to cars that have ethanol gas in them and sit for any length of time. Around here the non ethanol is 91 and clearly marked on the pump for classic cars and small engines

Might be different in Mn., but in Ca. I found out that stations aren’t required to have anything posted on the pumps. I don’t recall the specifics, but as I recall it had to do with whether it had “some” or was a like a “E85” blend. Again, not sure. Just wanted to mention it.

Find some 100% gas, I am sure the 93 octane has alcohol in it. Mark is right that stuff is slop ! over time it eats your fuel system up from the inside out. Get some AV gas for stuff that sits it has a 2 year shelf life.

Everything back together and it runs fine, didn't drive it, gotta get ready to go to the firehouse, but, I stuck the timing light on it and it was 15 initial, 32 total. I put 3 more degrees in it. I'll be back home on Wednesday and I'll take it for a test drive

The Key Oil has a 110 pump, but that stuff is $8 a gallon.

I pay 11 a gallon here for Sunoco 110, I looked on a locater in your area and 100 LL ( AV gas ) is 6.81 . But not to many airports left where you can put it in cans anymore. Buy some good straight gas and you will be fine , even if is only 87 octane. Get your car running mix in some good gas and go from there. That will be better than it sitting in the shop self destructing with the alcohol ruining everything.

I've seen the crusty crap in a fuel bowl from ethanol, but never jelly. It's there any possibility that this crap came from the foam in the Chinese Amazon fuel cell?

Lloyd, the white powder stuff and brown looks like something I see from long term storage around here from ethanol, the crystals I dont know o_O
My buddy has a small engine service and told me a lot of his work comes from ethanal.

I'm lucky to have a Cenex station nearby that carries nonethanol 87 and 91 fuel, I run it in all the lawn mowers and old cars ;) Also make sure to burn it in the last two tanks of the O.T. dually camper/tow truck before putting it to sleep during the winter storage. Almost time to wake em up again :)

I can't answer that , but you got your new tank in get all that mess cleaned out find a good place to buy your gas and see how it goes. I grew up in gas stations from the day I was born, I buy all my gas from one station , I know they maintain their tanks and I never stop if I see them getting a delivery. I don't know if you have SHEETS brand station but they have some 88 octane which is 15 % alcohol which makes matters even worse.

That explains the rust on the bolts. It gets driven, but it's been sitting for the last little bit. Guess we'll see how it goes from here

yup, it is called "phase separation" that is when the alcohol absorbs moisture and gets heavy enough to settle at the bottom of the tank. This shit is poison for old cars...

I'll do my best to avoid it from here on out. I've never had this issue with any other old car I've had.

There is so much to know about modern fuels, here is just what Sunoco offers. https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuel-selector. There is more to it than back in the 60's and 70's when you just bought 260 or Gulf NO KNOX. That is what happened to me I grew up pumping that stuff and the fume took control of my brain. We had one station of each brand.

Not to sound like an advertisement, but I have had good luck using Sta-bil fuel stabilizer in 10% ethanol gas. Best to use the non ethanol gas if you can though. Dam shit gas!

You might have to look for or ask for "recreational gas". I think that's what they call it in states that have ethanol mandates.

Been reading up on sta-bil. I've always used it in my lawnmower and weedeater and chainsaw, but it looks like I need to throw some in my car lol

OT here but it was in ‘84 , I owned a 70 Cobra , 429 SCJ Drag Pac car , when you pulled down the plate to expose the gas filler neck , there was a sticker present that stated “ 115 octane fuel , must be used or engine is void of factory warranty “ . At that time all it would not rattle on was AV Blue Gas . My Buddy , worked on tankers , so I would drive to local airport he would open the gate to maintenance building and fill me up . It cost $2.89 at that time , no road tax . The car had 31K miles on the clock , I paid $1900.00 and sold it for $4500.00 , 8 months later . It was untouched , bone stock . Would you buy one , for that price today ?

The jelly is from the fuel. That’s what the corn does when it mixes with water. Blue Marine Sta-BIL and Sea-Foam are your best new friends!

We have a few stations here in town that have 100% 93 octane. I run it in my old cars and my Harley
