Wow! a couple of FE Holdens among the many 48-215's. Couple of FJ's,a Mk2 Jag behind the black 48-215 and inboard of that a 60 Falcon and what is maybe a Morris/wolsley type. The Lark being the only V8 in that grid.
"Wing-tank special, built in England by USAF Lt. Col. Edward Richer, used a Ford Anglia chassis, plus parts from Chevrolet and Austin. The tanks came off an early Lockheed T-33 jet trainer."
Hello, This photo scared us when it came out. Our dad always took us for a drive up the Santa Monica Coast Highway to points North. He had old friends in a small community called Oxnard, CA. The city was just past the big bend and giant Pt. Mugu rock beach along Highway 1. The reason for the scare was that the highway runs along the oceanfront and any blockage jams up the passage. But, if we were in the slow lane going North as usual, the landslide would have been awful. A big event in 1951 in the Santa Monica coast near the Palisades area. Then in 1995, we were affected by the Coast Highway closure in March due to a massive slide in the little community of La Conchita, near our favorite North coast area surf spot, Rincon Point, going to and from Santa Barbara. Because all lanes of the Coast Highway were closed from Rincon Point North to the southern city of Ventura beaches. It was due to the rain runoff that rushed away from the massive dirt slide and across all lanes of Coast Highway leading to the ocean. Our son was going to UCSB in Goleta, CA, on the other side of Santa Barbara. But, a family emergency in Los Angeles/Orange County area had him in a tizzy. He could not get home the usual way down the coast and could not get to a freeway location. So, we planned on him heading inland to Lake Casitas, where the 1984 Olympic Games Rowing Events took place. And around the whole lake area then back through winding roads to the ocean in the southern area at Ventura Beach. Now the freeway was fairly empty from there all the way home to the OC. Jnaki The winding road to Lake Casitas is a nice view mountain drive, along the shoreline of the lake on one side. But, everyone that wanted to go South from Santa Barbara wanted to use that normally nice winding road to get to points in the southern direction. So, he left very early in the morning and made it safely home. Tragedy makes folks adapt to the situations at hand. With this backroad road trip in hand, it gave our son a new way to enjoy the back country side of Santa Barbara area and for future family trips. My wife and I drove through the same road from the inland Ojai area to get to our destination of Goleta and our resort hotel back in 2018.
I don't know if they got their hands on 2 dozen mandrel bent "U" tubes and welded them to form this boiler explosion or they just got a new tubing bender.
