America Graffiti is 50 years old this year !
I just received my Haggerty Magazine in the mail and they have a enjoyable article on it.
That movie kept the Hot Rod and Custom craze going to this day.
They say you can never go back to your youth.
I say when that nostalgia mood hits, for 90 minutes that movie you most certainly can - over and over again.

It's been quite the ride fellas.

I saw it in the theater. I remember coming out afterwards, as a six year old doesn’t get to go to too many late movies.

I first saw it at the Ohio Valley Drive-in in my 50 Merc that I had at the time. Hard to believe.

Our car club in Orlando, the Early Irons, went to see it at the University Drive-In on East Colonial Drive.
Movie goers went nuts when a bunch of honest to goodness hotrods came cruzin’ in and all parked on one row.
I drove a fellow club member’s 37 Chevy pickup, as my roadster was a pile of parts and a dream in the ‘70’s.
    And we got in FREE!
    I was 27 in ‘73!

    Fun time!

Still have my Booker T, Green Onions album!
    Rock on!

I can’t believe it came out that long ago. Almost as old as I am. :D Not sure I could count how many times I saw it as a kid...and adult.

Bob Falfa: Ha ha! That's pretty good! Say, I like the color of your car there, man. What's that s'posed to be? Sort of a cross between piss yella' and puke green ain't it?

I saw the movie as a teen and it inspired me to build a yella coupe, which I still have 40 years later....

Well this just made me feel old. Saw it when it first came to our local theater. Drove my '55 Chevy that I still have. I think the hair on my neck stood up when that yellow '32 first came on the screen.

With the movie set in 1962, it was truly a magical time for cars, music, and just how simple life was back then. I was only 14, but had a 48 chevy 4 door with dual pipes, lived in the country, and I could sneak around and drive on the gravel roads. McMinnville, Oregon, had the ideal cruise route that guys from all the nearby towns every Sat night gathered. We had a local dragstrip, as well as 3 remote straight stretches that served as strips, and only 2 County Sheriff cars. If you drove by and both cars were parked at the station, it was game on. Oh what a time to have lived !

    As time goes by...
    And the world gets stupider...

It seems, our memories of the way things used to be somehow continue to become more and more important.

    The sights...
    The sounds...
... are indelibly imprinted upon our minds.
    Our hearts.
    Our souls.

It was the first time for many to see all those Hot Rods as living and breathing things, it changed the life of more than a few young men and boys!!

Yep, was 13/14 as well when first saw it, but it was summer of 75 or 76 when I saw it in the theatre here in UK, as they used to re-run films a second time about 2/3 years later as the B movie. Can't remember now what the A movie was all these years later, but Graffiti embedded itself in my psyche and the era and the cars and music etc, have been embedded in me ever since.
Can remember seeing the Cleftones play live at Hemsby Rock n Roll weekender back in the 90's singing Heart and Soul, and thinking about seeing Graffiti a couple of decades earlier as a teenager, and here we are another almost 3 decades later than that......scary.

I was 17 when it came out, naturally I had to see it when it showed at a local Drive In.
The era depicted in the movie was an earlier time for me, but not unlike what we were living in real time.
The movie captured emotions/feelings that were spot on...oh, and the sound track.
    Loved it then, still do.
