Whatever this ends up being, please update the thread once you've found it! Too many troubleshooting threads on the internet go cold when the original poster figures out what's wrong but never posts what it turned out to be. That info is very helpful for others investigating similar problems.

  2. Well here's the deal.. Ended up dropping tank.. Found the line partially clogged with***** from tank, also original builder reduced line into tank which made it even worse. Where it was reduced is where everything got plugged up. No sock on line. Had fuel pressure at Idle but not on acceleration. Only thing I can figure is last tank gas, I bought was high test where normally by reg. could have cleaned some*****. out. Runs like a top now..

I think a measured fuel pressure and measured volume test at the carb inlet can be a pretty handy test.
Good pressure and good flow pretty strongly suggests the fuel pump, filter, fuel line etc are in decent shape, and I should be looking elsewhere.

  4. I agree. I have a fuel pressure gauge mounted on inlet to carb. Been nice to have one in dash.. That way I could have seen the pressure drop on acceleration. At Idle it was perfect.

I dunno, I have this image of burnt to a freaken crisp.
So... I say to myself, self, do ya think average Joe would be silly enough to do that. My inner voice says, "Well... it's keeping with traditional ways, passed down from generations of the white Fa Ca Wee people. Those who said, yes it is dangerous, but it is the ways of our people to cast out the electronics and use mechanical with a line and fittings to a gauge. Copper line must be used. For that is traditional in scared hotrod color".

I'm adding it to my list.

Glad you found your problem and let us know what you it was.

  8. No, less than 500 times I have rigged up a fuel pressure gauge under the windshield wiper where I could see it while driving. Good hose, good clamps, good routings.

  9. Autometer makes a fuel pressure gauge isolator that allows the mounting of a fuel pressure gauge inside a vehicle. Not cheap, just letting you know they do exist.

A hot rod builder in the states recently posted ye was having issues with his personal high-end build. It turned out that his carb floats had both collapsed. Check everything. Something is bound to be wrong.
