I’ve spent my life around cars. Bought my first 68 Camaro when I was just 12 years old. Over the years there’s been a variety of vehicles from mini trucks to muscle cars to classic VW’s and even a little with vintage Harley’s. Nowadays I’m settling into the world of classic hot rods. My current car is a 1930 Model A coupe powered by a 1957 Hemi 392 with a Tremec TKX 5 speed and a Winters quick change rear end. There are many many plans for this car and that’s why I want to be more active on this page. Meeting people, getting ideas and finding parts. From what I’ve seen this looks like a great community and I’m excited to be part of it.
My career was in an auto body shop either in the office or a paint booth. I’m now retired and really enjoying my time with my hot rod. So far I’ve traveled out of state to some events and I’d love to do more of that. The events that I really like are reliability runs. I’m not a “sit in your lawn chair and talk about your car” kind of guy. The runs I’ve been on have been great!
I’m not sure what else to put here so please feel free to comment and I’m going to continue reading through all the posts!

There’s nothing like rolling through small towns in the middle of nowhere with a group of hot rods.

Exactly. It would be a drive to get to any of ours for you, but might consider it since you like to drive anyway. :D The first one I went on took about 500 miles to get to so I could drive 100ish more miles then back.

In about 2 weeks I’m headed to the Grand Canyon with a group. Depending on how many little side trips I take it could be 1600-1800 miles total.

Thanks for the welcome! If you are referring to the Buick engine then I have bad news coming up in my build thread. Sorry but 200 horsepower just isn’t enough for me.

A 350 hp 327 should do the trick...;)

  17. First let me say, welcome to the best damn site on the internet!

Not to be a party pooper. But the rules here are pretty strict and enforced with an iron fist. Unfortunately your wheels are less than "hamb friendly" and they may cause this thread to be closed or deleted.

Not that I care, but just thought you should know....

Either way, looks like ya got a fun one!

I looked at the pictures posted in the what’s appropriate post and there is one car on there with what appears to be the same wheels as I have. To be honest they were what came on the car when I bought it and during my tear down this coming winter I’ve got plans for something much more old school. To me this car has a very 80’s or 90’s feel and my plan is more salt flats style. It’s all in the works but doesn’t happen overnight. I appreciate the input! I’m looking forward to much more!

Here’s the one from the admins post. I really hope this doesn’t get deleted because you guys have been awesome!

  19. Very nice A.:) I am a hard core Model A guy. I also commend you on the fact that you drive the coupe a lot for distance . Get rid of the white letters on the tires. Just my 2.3 cents.;)

  20. I hear you. And yes! This is the best place to be, Period.

This is part of my rebuild that’s going to happen this coming winter. Should make things a little spicy! 77B2D87B-2E55-4537-ACCA-9BE8F6BAC6F9.jpeg

Lots to learn about torq thrusts on the HAMB. From the original magnesium, to the TTO’s in aluminum, to the D’s for disc brakes, to the TTII’s, and the M’s. Lotsa versions out there. This place is kinda horny about the magnesiums and kinda ok about the aluminum TTO’s. That’s about it from what I’ve seen. I had some TTII’s on my old roadster, but won’t find any pics of that here. :)

They came on the car and my plans are to go a different direction. I appreciate the input.

    Thanks!
I’ve got a few ideas for the wheels but haven’t fully decided. I’ve got to factor in the ability to hook up! I doubt a set of 5” wide Coker’s are going to get much traction.

  26. Whew! I feared a SBC. :p

  27. I figured they were on it when you got it. And I really hope you don't think I was picking on you or your car....I think the mods will look past it? At least I hope so! Maybe post up some of your more traditional wheel ideas you like?

Wheel swaps are easy, and while expensive, really can change the whole vibe of a car.

and with your plans I think that it will be interesting to watch how you change things for your own taste. They're lots of nice cars out there, that are a few visual changes away from being completely different cars. Anyways...long winded way to say I like your car, despite the 80-90's vibe, it looks like a real good start, and best if all it looks like you're having a blast!

I've been daily driving a 1931 model A pickup for 10 years, so I'm all about driving them.

I can’t tell you how many people told me to go SBC! Most of them tried to justify it with the miles I drive. This Hemi is going to be more fun to drive and should stand out a little. Having something different is kinda fun.
There’s nothing wrong with a SBC but they are so common.

I appreciate the feedback. Posting up my wheel ideas and asking for help deciding might be a good idea. At least it might help me with deciding. There are so many cool options!
The rebuild I’ve the winter is going to include a new frame with properly designed suspension, a quick change and obviously the Hemi 392 that I posted a picture of elsewhere. The new frame is going back to a leaf rear instead of the coilovers. Plans are to chop and channel it once the new frame is done. So much work to do! Like I’ve said, it doesn’t happen overnight.
