My brother and I just completed a 3300 mile journey to the western states from East Tennessee in my 30 coupe. My A dubbed the Y Brock Coupe due to it's Y block power and my last name handled the trip without protest. The trip covered portions of Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, and Utah.
Our main purpose and destinations were the awesome landscapes of the American west and just to enjoy cruising in a hot rod and meeting the interesting people who always show up when a couple of old farts in a hot rod appear. We experienced everything from a traffic jam in 80 plus degree weather to 3 feet of snow on the roadside and 40 degree temps at 10,600 feet elevation in Colorado.
We had a great visit with Jason Smith owner of Hot Rod Garage in Sand Springs Oklahoma and a tour of his first rate shop and current builds. Jason is the originator and and driving force behind fantastic hot rod experience The Gathering at the Roc along with co organizer Brandon "Buz" McCullough. We also visited The Route 66 hot rod museum in Santa Rosa New Mexico operated by the one and only "Bozo", and the Route 66 Museum in Clinton Oklahoma, a very informative source for Route 66 lore.
Another highlight if the trip was a chance meeting with Jim Lindsay, life long hot rodder gentleman farmer, successful author, and member of the Bonneville 200 MPH club, when we were both staying at the same hotel in the small town of Blanding Utah.
Fitting two weeks of luggage for two people to cover a wide range of temperatures in a model A coupe is no small feat as one of the photos will show. The Y Brock Coupe was outfitted as hot rod should be, no AC, no h eat, no wipers, no defroster, no sound system, thank goodness for Rainex.
The photos will give you a small bit of what we experienced. I might add that this was my brothers first ever hot rod experience actually his first ride in one, he did pretty well for some one who is well into his 70's. Oh yeah he is my younger brother.

That's cool as hell! About 2 months ago I did 6 weeks of almost that same tour with a 41 foot 5th wheel trailer in tow. Had a hell of a time but when I got home my ass was worn out. I can only imagine how it was for you guys! Glad to see you had some kind of top!

    Nice A

Jeff says it all in one word.
27 years back, I had the 5 year pleasure, of wandering that area in tractor trailer.
The company ( now gone ) was low pressure and I considered myself a tourist.
Thanks for showing us what Hot Rods are for. Fun Fun Fun

That's a great trip.. I've made parts of it before. Somewhere in my boxes of photos is one of my 48 sitting pretty close to where your A was in front of Wilson arch towing a 16 ft U haul with my son and dog half way up to the arch.

  18. With a brother no less, thank you.

What a great trip and hats off to your brother for sharing the trip with you when he had never experienced what riding in a hot rod was like. That sure beats the hell out of sitting in a chair behind your car at a show & shine or coffee cruise. Well done.

Good read. “Hey bro, wanna take a trip”? I might also add I hope I look as good in 10 years.
Aw heck, who am I kidding. When I’m in my 70’s, I’ll look like I’m in my 70’s.
