The Kiggins Theater in Vancouver, WA is still in operation (occasionally) as a vintage, nostalgia theater, specializing in old or unique independent films.
At night, it looks much better. when coming in for a landing to the LAX Airport from normal East to West landing pattern. The lights of the whole metropolitan valley from Riverside East to the ocean West landing is pretty outstanding and impressive. During the day, not so much... Hello, Well, if anyone has lived in a certain area from the 1940s to the current times, it seems like a long time in a specific area. But, So Cal is a huge place and one goes through areas to reach another area. We have driven all over the whole So Cal, Los Angeles basin and that causes a few stories here and there. It is just getting a reminder of an old photo or from life experiences that shapes our thoughts and writings. Yes, Park La Brea is a huge complex. If you see those colorized 1950s movies of the Wilshire District of Los Angeles, it looks like some of the buildings in the movie. The project is/was a big project back in those early days. It allows plenty of choices for living with all sorts of housing varieties. We used to go up to that area quite a lot in our teenage days as the movies in Long Beach were ok, but not the first run big name movies. The drive was worth it due to the activity in the area. The odd looking property on the right side is the La Brea Tar Pits, the L.A. Art Museum and other places of interest. If one goes off of the photo to the lower edge, the Peppermint Striped building is located here, sticking out in all its hot rod glory, during these modern times. But as interesting as it is, the La Brea Tar Pits is a place we took our son, when he was into the “dinosaur” stage in his reading and play development. As museums go, it was pretty good. Our late college days, my wife and I frequented the different museum and made it a day/night scouring the discount LP record stores. It was a well known fact that this whole area was a center for low cost, first edition versions of the popular rock music LP albums. $6.00 to $10.00 difference per LP album makes the road trip and wandering around was a good thing for us. Jnaki Recently, as our granddaughter grew up, she also frequented the area, why? Well as a pre-teen, her family was starting the American Doll phase of playing and collecting. So, at the time, there was a huge original American Doll Store in the Farmer’s Market area of The Grove, as it is called today. On a hot rod/custom car era, just north of the Park La Brea area is/was the famous Pan Pacific Auditorium for those big time car shows, before they spread out over the whole Los Angeles basin. It is a nice area to visit, but we would not want to live there... YRMV
