Especially if the engine is under a load.

  2. Yes, but it’s not vacuum that’s the culprit here.

  3. One other thing, if it was the bulbs floating at all, I would get popping through the carburetor because that’s what happens when valves hangup, and or bounce during a firing process. This does not happen with this engine.

Shoot your video at 720p HD resolution. Avoid shooting at 1080p Full HD or 4K as it creates huge video files and isn't necessary for these kinds of videos. And they'll slow down your uploads.

Upload your video to YouTube, copy a link to the video and then use that to link the video to the HAMB. Or just directly post the link here so we can click on it to watch the video on YouTube.

  5. I have to download some friggin app in order to do the YouTube thing and I am tired of having apps on my phone lol.
also, this new iPhone does not let me choose the rate at which I record it is all automatic .
The premier carburetor rebuilders of my county is coming by tomorrow morning. He’s going to give a listen to everything and give me his opinion I will have more to report tomorrow.

  6. Wow what a difference….. .094 jets in, now I get a carb flame pop when I throw the throttle at it. But after idling a little then doing it from the cab, the pop wasn’t there, and it’s surging, and trying to get above 3500. But still not a normal run condition .

  8. Popping back thru the carb and surging really does sound like not enough fuel ... or too much air.

The smoke out the left side appears to be burning oil, but even zooming in on my phone I really can’t tell the tint.
I recall you saying a 100k miles on it?
I’m sure it’s been said (if that’s correct), the engine has outlived its life expectancy from being made in the 50’s. Especially if a good portion of those miles were in the first 15 years or so it was driven

  13. Yes I get that.
In the door jam the last oil filter was put on July 22, 2014 and the mileage was 98,350. And the mileage today is 1446. I found some literature about the car specifically that I’m going to Check out

The literature was just warranty cards and original Chrysler information on how to maintain your car and there was a build sheet print out

  14. I just noticed I have a little bit of moisture in the left pipe, but the right pipe is dry. That’s a bit strange as the humidity level isn’t tall that great right now.

Why is the timing set so high at an idle? If the factory says 4° why is it at 14? You can over advance one to a point where it falls down at higher rpms.

Get the timing set right before condemning the carb.

When you slap the throttle wide open when running, what happens if you put your hand over the top of the carburetor?

  17. Wot vacuum

and idle vacuum, 23” I was reading it off earlier. Fluctuates about 1/3” of vacuum.

  18. It would probably **** all the skin off my carc***…. But I haven’t done it. I’ll do so now. Pray for me lol

  19. My hand gets slightly wet and it’s extremely difficult to pull away from the carburetor. Lol but the RPMs do not change.

  20. The coil power remains at 6.7 V all the way up to several thousand RPM.

So hand over carburetor during the revving up is no help. That tells me it's not lean.
What does the spark look like?
What are the plugs gaped at?

  22. Man that thing sounds bogged down
The fluctuations at idle could be ignition or valve issues

  23. Plugs are gapped to .037. Spark is great. There’s no sputtering or backfiring.

  24. A quarter or third inch of vacuum bounce isn’t all that uncommon.a 2” bounce is definitely something messy somewhere.

  25. It really does sound like it’s bogging down. The more carbon give it the more flat lines. I have just purchased a square bore to spread bore adapter from summit. It’ll be here tomorrow I’m going to bolt on my AVS2 tomorrow, if my local carburetor guru has no solutions.

mane it wants more fuel and air from a 600 cfm Edelbrock lol. This damn car

The left side looks pretty normal to me but there's barely anything coming out of the right pipe. Is there an equal amount of pressure at the exhaust tips?

I mentioned that way back in post 26 on the first page.

  28. The exhaust has no crossover, and it has blow through 18” gl*** packs.

and I physically see both sides flowing well. I’ll put up the video of the same thing with two size smaller jets in a minute.

maybe it’s too dang MUCH fuel….

  29. The timing is set at 13° before to bring the all in timing at 50° because 50° is what these things like for best economy. It shocked me too. 36-38 in my Ford’s is what I’m used to.
