Technical Gas in oil

Does anyone have info on a inline pressure regulator for fuel line. I have a stromberg carb and it only wants 6 lbs of fuel pressure. My electric fuel pump is 12-15 lbs, I think that's my problem! I rebuilt the complete fuel system, and New tank. Any help is appreciated. Sid

 

Many low pressure regulators out there. I think 3/4 psi is about the most you want to the Stromberg. I used an off shoot of a Holley, worked fine for my 221, but Holley’s are readily available, I’m sure many others.

 

I just moved to a new County and found a new speed shop. He cut my Drums/ Hubs, and trued them. I'm hoping he can fix me up. Thanks budget!!

 

Stromberg 97's run 2 to 3 PSI. I use a Holley 12-804 on mine, they come preset at 2.8 PSI and easily adjust.

Adjusts from 1-4 psi.

Be sure to change oil before starting.

 

Did you mean 3 to 4 pounds? 3/4 makes it look like 3 quarters of a pound.

 

Also remember that a leaking diaphragm in a mechanical fuel pump can leak fuel into the crankcase.

Those dial type regulators are known to leak if the supply pressure is very high, I had a couple of them do that on me, left me stranded on the side of the road with fuel spraying onto the engine and even up onto the windshield. They're not great at regulating pressure either. Real POS's. I changed to a Holley regulator and have had no more problems.

 

If your electric pump is putting out 12 psi, and you only need 3 to 4 psi, you may also have to add a fuel return line to the tank from the regulator. Some regulators can't reduce the pressure if it deadheads against a much lower psi carb need, they need to return the excess fuel and its pressure back to the tank.

 

Good advice Gene. My in-tank pump delivers a large amount of fuel pressure and gallonage per hour. I had to knock it down with a carburetor type reg with a return line on the frame rail (Holley - don't recall the part number) and then into the 12-804 mounted to the blower to dial it down to 2.5

 

What Stromberg carburetor do you have that likes 6 psi?

As to regulators: as others have mentioned, an effective fuel regulator will have an internal pressure bypass, with a return line going back to the tank.

The inline dial-type regulators available at most FLAPS are also extremely useful.............assuming you have a strong right arm, and a rabbit problem in your garden! If clean, they may also serve as paperweights.

Ran six carbs and only 2 1/2 psi

 

I would chuck the 12psi pump and get a Facet or similar low pressure pump. 1.5-4 psi. Less to go wrong. Mike
