If it has a provision on the right side for a mechanical fuel pump, it's a "B"
    No fuel pump it's a "A"

Model A has an oil return tube on the right side of the block behind the carb. Model B does not. Model A top hose to the radiator comes from the head. On the B they are from the water pump but heads are interchangeable

Is the short number on the engine tag the same as the vin number on the car? It seems so short. Can you tell the year of the engine by the number?

B engine didn't have a serial number stamped on the pad on the block...it was on the bell housing
That doesn't mean that someone didn't stamp one there at some time especially if it was installed in an earlier car
and you are in Sweden so anything I know probably doesn't count anyway
The number you posted looks made up and follows no convention I am familiar with and a vin number didn't exist in the years B engines were made. There may be a casting number that would help you establish the year of manufacture but all parts for B engines across all years are the same...I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve...but we are back to everything I know doesn't count anyway
    Good luck

Regardless of VIN v SN, I think above it was confirmed as a B engine. I can’t imagine (other than being curious) why the year would matter?

As I understand it, the earlier B engines didn't have a counterweighted crankshaft.

I see. I guess year may be of a concern then.

Worth checking if its a diamond block. They were not serial number stamped in the usual format, or at all in some cases. https://www.fordgarage.com/pages/diamondblock.htm

There were several cranks in B blocks, from no counterweights, to add-on weights to forged integral counterweights.

Okey! I got the identity on my model A from my engine since it was hard to identify on the frame. Was thinking I might be able to get the identifikation for another project that the engine would be in.

Weren't the crank mains larger on a B compared to the "A"s?

    yes and rods too
the other advantage to the B is that the A is all gravity oiling to the mains/cam and the B is semi pressurized and can be pressurized pretty easy with some modifications
