Projects Barn find - 1964 Pontiac Catalina 421 early custom car

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by redranch, Jul 9, 2016.

  1. On a recent trip to Missouri I was able to visit Bob and take a few more photos, the body work is almost done...just finishing the drivers side rear fender, the drivers door handles will be next and then it is ready for the next stage...paint and putting the car back together.

  5. That has been quite a journey. Full support here for the lavender and blue lace, it will be neat to see that come together. How do the seats fit into the vision? They were dramatically custom, but I expect they may have been lost to time. Keep up the good work.

  6. It's currently in Seymour, MO.

  7. Original came with a bench seat, Bob got rid of that for custom bucket seats (you can see in some of the early photos, but he said they were very uncomfortable and ditched those too).
I found a pair of 64 buckets seats and have just had SMS Fabrication make a new black interior for the car.

  8. The driver side of the car is done now, all that is left to do is the lower fender and rocker corner. Bob needs to pull the rocker corner out to meet that fender. The fender is perfect, it's just the rocker dives in too much. It's not too bad for building the whole thing on a rotisserie…it's out by about 5/16".

A new interior has just been ordered, it's getting closer to paint.

It’s good to see the progress. I had a 66 Bonne in high school.

  11. Still more body work, but the good news is that we are talking about primer and paint now...slowly getting there.

  12. Glad Chuck got that tach done. I don't know if he is even in business anymore? Turned into quite the train wreck. My wife is friends of the family.

  13. Yes, Chuck went through some stuff, but he got through it and is back in business. He did a fantastic job on the tach and I would use him again.

  14. Apart from adjusting the lower front fender where it hits the door, the metalwork is all done. The doors needs to have holes drilled from the trim and the seat rails need to be fitted, then the car is ready for primer.

  15. Good to know, I may reach out to him for my GMC guages

  16. These are the most recent photos from Bob, the last of the bodywork is finally finished. It's been a long journey to get here, but i an see a little crack of daylight ahead. Paint is the next stage.

I going over to Missouri in a few weeks and am hoping to stop by and see the car again in the flesh.

  20. Sorry for the long gaps between posts, but I was also waiting on an update on the bodywork.
Photos of the last sand/wet sand to paint. It will be disassembled after Bob has ordered the paint. The jambs etc will be paint when the car is taken apart…

love this car!!! eager to see it with finish paint on it!!!!!

  29. One step closer to fitting the buckets seats along with the centre console. Don´t worry I have a new black interior from SMS ready to fit, just waiting for the door panels from them...it´s only taken 2 years, but it´s not as if the car were ready yet...but we are getting very close.

  30. Two seats are now in and looking good. The car originally had a bench seat from the factory, but Bob took that out and created his own bucket seats and added a Chevrolet centre console. But he was unhappy with the seats he made and threw them out but never replaced them. So in keeping with the direction he was going, I found factory bucket seats and a factory 4 speed centre console. Once we fit the new interior I think it will look great.
