Father's Day is coming up. Maybe a couple of hints to Miss Ashley and a big block will magically appear?

LLoyd, Here are a couple pictures of my 427 sitting in my 59 El Camino over the years for inspiration. It was actually a 454 with a 396 Crank and L88 Pistons, but I never told it that when I Hammered on it.

Vette guys say it isn't worth much because it isn't uncut. Guys, what's a fair price for this stuff?

real L88 manifolds did not have a center divider, so that one is uncut. real corvette guys should know that. I think a fair price for the intake and heads would be 2 tickets to Lloydstock!!

Sooooo, is watching you guys build a big block Chevy going to be part of the Lloydfest activities?

I watched the Texas guys each bring a pile of parts and pieces to the HAMB drags one year, they assembled a roadster in the hotel parking lot then raced it at the drags, then took it apart in the hotel parking lot and everyone took their parts back home. You all got some big shoes to fill!

Too bad I don't have any big block Mopar parts left to bring along to confuse the build with. :p:D

Wish me luck, and by that I mean don't break it! Getting ready to load up and head on over to the track. Still doesn't run right, but I ran out of time, and I don't give a shit either lol

Wanted to update this, in the case that it wasn't seen on the drag strip thread. I changed the carburetor to another new 600 Holley I had. I put the 35 discharge nozzle in it and the medium (silver) secondary spring. Immediately better. Also gapped the plugs to 35. Dropped the timing to 10⁰initial, 34⁰ all in at 2200rpm with the help of one lite spring and one medium. The car is a different car now. Runs a thousand times better than it did Saturday. Friday night I'm taking it over for the test & tune session at the drag strip, see how much it improves. I'll be sure to post the results, unless it got slower of course lmao!

Not sure that any of this will help...as usual.... :)
    pist5.jpg

    a row of pistons

    pist01.jpg
flat tops cut down 1/8" to make a 496 stroker. Not much dome thickness left, and you'd need a 1/4" stroker 454 crank.

    pist02.jpg h581cp060.jpg

    hyper .060 oversize .340 dome

    pist03.jpg

original L-88 I think, you'd need a 396 crank and good fuel for these! plus a standard bore block, which is hard to find.

    pist04.jpg

Flat tops. 030. I have a block to put these in, to make a normal 454 with. You'd need closed chamber heads to get compression with them, but if you could find some early rectangular port closed chamber heads, like off a 375 hp 396, they'd be great.

My machinist offered me a set of .030 flat tops, but I'm gonna stick with the heads i have. I believe he told me speed pro domes are $330, bore size doesn't matter.

Any reason not to run these pistons? Screenshot_20230603-092439_Samsung Internet.jpg
