Scored some cool 18" Rocket Racing Solid wheels on sale today but was too tardy to pick up a matching set of 16s in 5 x 5 1/12.

There are some 16s 5x5 available though. As much as I would love the same stud pattern on both ends Im yet to buy the brakes for the front and havent been able to locate 16s with 5x5 1/2.

Anyone aware of some 5x5 discs that fit round back spindles? Or am I creating a rod for my back long term going with 5x5?

    As always thanks.

Never mix bolt patterns if you can help it.

I used Speedway's disc brake kit that uses 73-77 midsize rotors. Of course it has the 5x4.75 bolt pattern, and I needed 5x5 to match the floater hubs on the quick change rear I'm using.

Solution: Speedway has a 73-77 midsize rotor in their stock car racing parts that has the 5x5 bolt pattern. Then I only needed to replace the 5/8 coarse thread studs with 1/2 inch fine thread studs. I've got all of the part numbers written down somewhere. I'll take a look for them later today out in the garage.

Some of the race product manufactures used the B.P.O. 5X5 bolt pattern, Chevy dabbled with it for a time on Impala's & 2 whl. pickups as well.

Just checked Jegs and they have the Rocket Smoothy wheels in a 16X5 with 5.5 bp wheel in stock.

You can get floater hubs in 5-on-4-3/4".

There are even step-down screw-in studs from 5/8" to 1/2"-20.

I am mistaken, Jeg's is showing the wheels being factory shipped. Sorry

Yeah, but it was cheaper the way I finally did it. And I garontee (say it like the cajun chef used to) those massive billet gn speedway floater hubs are way stronger than the cast steel 5x4.75 hubs Winters sells. But heavy! Oh, I did change the studs to 1/2 inch fine thread on them also. And I'm using truck rally wheels with the (single) 5x5 bolt pattern.

Gimpy, you may remember recommending way back those hubs. At the time they typically sold for $190 or thereabouts per hub with new bearings. Plus studs about $5 each, so $430. At the same time the front rotors were about $45 each and since the bearings in the brake kit were new, I just swapped out the kit rotors for the replacement ones. Studs were about the same cost per, total $50. So this way was less than one new hub.

Yes, I am thrifty. It's the Scots in me.

I may be forced to go with some 1" adaptors if I cant get anything thinner :( .

At least that way I still have 5x5.5 on the front brakes.

I bought a couple sets of the 18" solids with the 5 on 5 1/2" bolt pattern. Really a good deal. I think all they had left were 5 on 5. 5FB1F34C-5B5A-401D-9BB7-FECB43EC8C25.jpeg

I have re-patternen wheels on my mill.

It is not hard for a machine shop to do.

@ssaza25 Those are the ones I bought too but mine are still in the US. Could you be so kind to flip that wheel over and post a pic of the inside, just interested to see if they could be redrilled for another pattern.

For 5X5 inch discs I like P&J's Power Stoppers. Available in all 4 of the main bolt patterns. and don't space the wheel out like some brake kits.

Not looking to hijack the thread, but I like the looks of the wheels. I have not been able to find the details of how the nut cover / fake wheel lock spinner assembly is held in place. Anyone care to share pics / info? Thanks.

Thanks @ssaza25 doesnt look too promising to drill another set of holes.

Were you chasing a set of 16s (5x5.5) too? I found some but the guy has 4 but he wont sell them in pairs. I only need 2.

If they are like my Halibrand ones there is a piece that goes between the wheels and brake surface that has a threaded part that comes through the wheel. Spinners mount to that with a seperate collar hiding the wheel nuts and kept on with the spinner.

I'd be interested to purchase the other 2 with you....unless they've been sold. I have 18s and do not have a pair of fronts....it appears Holley is no longer producing and most did not keep stock on hand.

    Thx. Chris

Got distracted and never got back to you on the rotor Speedway has that works with their disc brake kit for 37-48 Ford spindles and metric calipers. Part number 91031064 73-77 GM midsize rotors with 5x5 bolt pattern. You need to change the studs from the 5/8-11coarse thread to 1/2-20. The knurl size is 0.685 I believe, but check with Speedway if you order them.

If you were to use their brake kit, you wouldn't use the rotors in the kit, and just swap the inner bearing races into these alternate rotors as described in their instructions.
20230608_180250.jpg Here's the setup on 48 F1 spindles. This required a different bearing adapter also as the inner bearing races are larger on those spindles.
20200902_153250.jpg Here's the only picture I have on the previous spindles, repop 37 Ford with bolt on steering arms.
