    Hello,

Ever since I saw Bill Colburn’s modified Competition Coupe, I have been enthralled with the whole concept. Looking closely, the build(s) were FED with a modified body on top, only the body, doors and sometimes the hood/grille combo. Essentially, it was a FED with a body. The difference between the Altered Coupes/Sedan class and the Competition Coupe classes was the placement of the driver.

In the early drag racing days, the designation for Altered Coupes and Competition Coupes was similar, but different. There are a lot of people that make the mistake in identification of old photos, as they are/were similar. for most, the Fiat coupes, the Crossley coupes/sedans looked like and were mostly Altered Class racers. But, there were others that looked the same, but were classified as Competition Coupes. A simple mistake, as we all made those choices at one time or another.

A little research is necessary prior to designating an Altered Fiat Coupe as a Competition Coupe, or vice versa in these hectic copy and paste internet trips into the world of old drag racing photos.

One of my first films was that of Bill Colburn’s Fiat Competition Coupe.

Then came our friend, Gary Gabelich’s Blue Crossley Altered Sedan, he built and drove as a teenager.
    1959-60 seasons

So, over time, those two must have made a dent in this old noggin. Perhaps, that is why I like that class of Altered Coupes and Competition Coupes as the lost portion of drag racing. A combination of a Crossley body with a Fiat smooth angular nose made my version interesting.
upload_2023-6-9_4-20-39.png So, is it an Altered Sedan or a Competition Coupe build artwork? Well, you will have to look inside to see what is what... YRMV

Actually, those classes led into the total modification of standard body coupes/sedans to the chopped, channeled, full roll chassis applications of the early ideas in drag racing, leading to the current funny cars.

    Ho-lee-chit, it's Friday again already!

Me-thinks it's time for the Big Tub (aka the Orange Peeler, according to the door)!

There's still the OT E-type and 'Vette Stingray models, but they're not really fitting, so this will wrap up the weekly time-travel courtesy of plastic models. Next time I visit my folks I'll see if I can get a few other close-ups, if there's interest. Thanks for watching! :)

And thanks for the FAS! There's some fine artists here, and some great inspiration for all those cars I'm going to build when I'm older and richer... :D

I loved cut-away drawings as a kid. Probably what got me into engineering.

    G'day. Sunday I drew Zip's '41 Special. It's a stocker. I rectified the A3 pencil drawing with a slice 'n' dice.

...I captured this with my high end cellphone at our local cruise night...The 32 is well known in the area and the owner does collect some seriously cool details...The Ole Hound Dog along with the Coupe really fit with the graying sky...I may be mistaken but this may be one of the rarer versions of this cap...

    Great showing of Art Hambers...

Oh...I think I found my problem crippling my ride...:)

I had a filter core in a chrome steel Fuel Filter come unglued 2 years ago causing numerous losses in power on the road till I found it and replaced it...This year since first starting it up in the spring I've experienced new losses in power while accelerating seeming like a potential ignition problem...I've checked and replaced many parts trying to isolate the cause, was going to change the power valves in the primary 94s and when I disconnected the fuel line fittings at the carbs I peaked in only to see several chunks of the glue nestled around the needle valve housings...runs like a dream again...talk about being haunted...

One good thing is the needle valve housing holes act nearly like a filter too capturing that shit before it gets further...

Sorry long winded but really excited about giving the Ole Hotrod a run now that gas can get to the places it's supposed to...
