Oh, and I am thankful that****les are still easy to get in Oklahoma. Last one I got was for a 62 Impala SS and I just had to go to court to get it. I knew it wasn’t stolen since my buddy had owned it for the past 40 years. So...lack of a****le doesn’t scare me much if I am getting it from someone that I know actually owns it and didn’t steal it. I buy most cars from folks I know and it hasn’t bit me yet. Also helps me get decent deals sometimes since some folks won’t buy a car without a****le.

But I usually buy junk. Not much to hide about something that’s sat in a field for decades.

    In Bama,****les aren’t needed.
I guess it limits your selling ability.

Poorly done repairs, especially home bodywork hack jobs.*****py modifications done by someone who is clueless with a welder or tape measure. Sellers that refuse to send specific photos or answer condition questions saying "you just need to come and look". I'm not driving 10 hours to see your junkpile unless I can get a fair idea of it's condition!

  6. That does affect things.
Especially if it’s large items. A modern dash? Instant walk away.
A modern brake booster? I’d consider it as long as the price range is good. I can trash can that.
Sub framed? Possible walk away. Definitely if the track width is way too wide.

never stole a car, never lied to a buyer, not sure why you would care about what I did 35 + years ago in deals with people you never met who never came back with any issues. I also bought a few that were not registered to the seller, again, never an issue.

    "Selling for a Friend"

This gives a 'title jumper' a free rein to be a "lying sack of*****"
Then they plead ignorance [and blame the imaginary previous owner]

Not necessarily a deal breaker, but my radar gets set off when a seller says, "Trust me." If he has to tell me that, The trust is not being earned.

Just looked up ''title jumping''. It's a new world out there now. What got a pass before is getting looked at now in a different light. Flipping cars involves doing the paperwork properly. Good 'ol boy deals are illegal.

For me it's when things start to shift either during a sale or a purchase. You make a deal and AGREE on what is or is not included in the sale and then when you go to pick it up stuff is missing or not as agreed upon. Or they show up with less than what you stated the price was! Will walk away from that every time. Also I will not invest any energy in buying a car from someone who wants to sit on their**** and make me do all the work so they can take my hard earned money. If you aren't interested in at least putting in half the effort for a sale then I am not interested in it at all.****les are a biggie also.

I would never buy a car I didn't really like. it's hard enough to make myself go out to the garage to work on something I really want to drive. I did walk away from a car last summer with typos on the VIN on the****le seller got super pissed but got it fixed then decided to keep the wheels that were on the car. they looked like***** to me but still made me mad nearly cost him the sell.

To me it’s all about the asking price, many ask for twice as much as a vehicle is worth. Might be nice, fine, but if I was looking to spend 5k on a project, then open “price inside” as see 10k, we are going to be worlds apart. No reason to even contact a fishing seller, in my opinion.
As mentioned Before, I’d never buy sight unseen, but if in a price range I’m comfortable with, I’ll take a look and decide.

Lying, rudeness, calling rust "patina" ,are deal breakers.

Stupid prices.****les doesn't bother me, structural rust is an issue in some cars, never owned a Model A that had good subrails lol

  16. Only 2 ways I buy them, brand new or hopelessly shot. Brand new goes 85 miles a day to and from work, hopelessly shot is for everything else. When you buy them hopelessly shot, there’s nothing to hide or cover up-they need everything.

I care because this practice that you were engaging in was being used by people to steal cars. Granted as you claim you had nothing to do with that sort of behavior, but the laws that allowed you to do what you did, which you state is harmless, also allowed people to break the law.

Not only is breaking the law repugnant, stealing cars drives up insurance rates. I'm not interested and seeing laws remaining on the books that allow and facilitate people driving up my insurance rates. This is to make no mention of the poor folks that I know who have had their beloved rides stolen from them!

This is also to not make mention of me experiencing the very same thing.

It is one thing to have a consumer commodity vehicle stolen, and to have it replaced by an insurance company. It is something substantially different to have a custom built automobile or motorcycle stolen, and partially replaced by an insurance company.

  18. The problem is most sellers think that stuff is a selling point and adds value, I view it as added work to remove and replace it with the correct parts, and usually the person doing the selling paid someone else to do the work or has a hodgepodge of parts (Often new) that don't or were never intended to work with each other and can't get them to work correctly.

Look at many threads there are here were someone took a car with that stopped a single master and drum brakes and "upgraded" to a dual master and disc brakes, and then can't get pedal, can't get the breaks to work, or can't get the brakes to come off.

  19. Oh. The modern fat tilt steering column.
    Nasty
Not a no go but doesn’t help.
    Definitely doesn’t add value

The seller. Years working with speculators I can read you well. Also weird terms, If I can't take it with me. If you want money, but won't let me take it with me, whatever the excuse. I will come back with cash and trailer, but no money changes hands unless i get it. Obviously, I won't be buying over the internet I trust very few.

An IFS conversion on an originally straight axle car. I see them on marketplace all the time with ugly front suspension from a MustangII or some other late model car.

For me it's when I make an offer and it's refused and I can't financially justify the extra cost for a deal. :(

ha, you reminded me my favourite peeve of all time,
    Lack of courtesy !
I recently listed a car for my daughter, and couldn’t believe how many texts that I got saying
“ will I take $xxxx for it “ (always without looking at it or asking any questions).
No, hello, hi there, etc, thanks or manners or name at end of text.
For me this is a deal breaker as - My policy on this is zero response from me. Seems to work out better !

To add to the****le comments, make sure the****le matches the car and I dont just mean the VIN, also make sure it fits the body type.

I remember when it was quite common to skip****les also. Not a big deal. It simply allowed people to avoid paying the state a little money.

The state didn't even seem to really care. Not so much any more. They need and want that money and it's not worth doing any longer.

I looked at a barely OT Chev. I crawled all over and under it. The seller showed me the****le and I copied the vin. It matched the car. Told me where bought it. Good believeable story on why selling. Tentatively arrived at a price. It was on a Saturday morning. I went home paid $9.95 for a Vin check. 4 owners in 6 months and not in his name and it was from the northeast not Texas as he said. Monday called him and said I could not find a place to store/park it so the deal was off. Too many red flags…

As a buyer. No small block chev and the buyer needs to be honest in his description. As a seller. Read the damn ad before you waste my time. All the info is there. No trades, price is firm etc
