as Squirrel said, that is not it. one side needs to look like the intake manifold and the other side needs to look like the carb

  3. You're right .It's not.
Only Q-jet adapters I've ever seen are open in the middle. Actually, they were first made to adapt a Q-jet to a TM-1 open plenum, single plane .
Used in any other manor is going to disrupt the flow, big time. They are only being sold for your app. because people will buy them.

You have 2 options to do this right, get a Q-jet to put on the manifold you have or get an intake manifold that is made for a square bore carb and run the Holley!

All do realize this is an exhibition engine that will only be run on a stand?
Bore the holes out in the adapter, you would probably never notice any performance related issues.

  6. Yes..
This is supposed to be an educational experience?
A conversation piece for the neighboring gear heads at beer: 30 ? ...
    All well and good.
Looks like he's done a good job so far. Why not finish it right, rather than with a cobbled up adapter?
He's got a Chevy Q-Jet there. Why not invest in a kit and some Simple Green and soak the pieces for a day or two?
He'll learn quite a bit about carbs that way, instead of just using a gift Holley.
It doesn't sound like he's up against a hard deadline here..What's another week, in the grand scheme of things.

It doesn't matter where it is going to be run, as I stated, there are 2 options to do it right! He already has spent extra money to do things that don't matter as far as running it on a stand so why not finish it right?

And there is always the second line in my signature block.

Actually, trying to run the Holley through the adapter may mess with the idle, even****uming that he hand-cuts custom gaskets to prevent a vacuum leak using the adapter.

Do it once, do it right!

  10. What an awesome day day!! Threw on an old set of spark plug wires. No Radiator. Electric choke not hooked up (will put manual one on eventually). Throttle not hooked up yet either. Just have 90 degree bends on the shorties for exhaust but........... IT’S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone on here for all of the help so far. I am so excited.

    Video Here!

You can’t post videos here. You have to upload to YouTube and post a link

looks like you have your video set to private. nobody but you can see it

  13. The video should be working now.

  14. For running the engine on a stand, Does the size of the radiator matter? I will be keeping an eye on the temp gauge and can shut it down if needed. I see I can get an aluminum 3 row radiator with a 12" electric fan for under $100.

You can use as small a radiator as you want, or none at all, if you keep an eye on the temp and turn it off when the coolant in the heads gets to 240 or so. Won't hurt anything.

With no way to put the engine under a load, it won't require much cooling capacity.

  17. I finally got a few hours to myself last night. I welded up the radiator support, installed radiator and hoses. I set the carburetor (all the way in with the idle screw then 1 and 1/2 out, all the way in on the needle valves on each side of the carburetor and 1 turn out each.) I still have to use the vacuum gage to fine tune the carb. I want to take auto choke off and install a manual one. Then install a cable for the throttle. I have to put heat tubes on the plug wires, one touched the exhaust and is smoking on the video. I want to put a new set of wires on that I can cut to length. Need to wire up the alternator. Still need valve cover breathers and an air filter. But it is definitely coming together. Thank you so much to all who have offered advice and parts.
