Thanks! Yea, I finally got it finished and loaded up a little after midnight last night. I did forget to get some silicone for the front and rear of the intake to bolt it on for good, so need to go get that today soon. Anyway, I did also just get it set back in so I think we are on the downhill slide now to have it running hopefully tomorrow. :D

Been in the corner waiting on me for a long time. Thought it was time to get it on the road. DSCN8122.JPG

Amazing something as basic as making a couple motor mount and setting the engine in place could take so long. No engineering awards for these mounts but they clear everything and the engine is centered, and level side to side and front to back. And they were made from some surplus plate and square tubing laying around the garage. On to the next challenge. 20230622_134800.jpg 20230622_134817.jpg

Well, stayed up way too late two nights in a row now, but was able to fire off the motor this evening around 11:00 or so. I’m sure it woke a few folks up since it just has zoomie headers along with the whine of the blower. Sounds much better after the cam swap so was definitely worth all the hassle. Just need to get it tuned some tomorrow, put the hood back on, and it should be good to go for an employee event next week.

Can that be the flywheel cracked? Or am I just wishful thinking?

Hard to tell in a video, but seems more like stacked rod bearing or something to me.

This engine was quiet. New stock rebuild. I fired it up with the 2bbl in the form I got it in, it was quiet. I changed the cam and lifters, comp thumpr with pbm lifters. That's when I heard the click. But it was only around #8. Found the bad rocker and gall ball, just changed all the rockers and balls yesterday. I just climbed under the truck and rocked the crank, no noise, no slop, all the converter bolts are tight, could this be them damn lifters? I pulled the rocker covers and nothing is loose, but I'm wondering if they're not pumping up?

I would say could definitely be lifters after what you describe.

  13. If it was quiet before any changes then definitely start with what was changed. Or Mama gets a big block!:)

Worth a try, I told Jamie to order me a set of lifters.

  16. I would pull them and make sure it didn’t wipe the cam, refresh my memory as to what is in it?

Comp thumpr, pbm lifters. I use those lifters quite a bit. I'm wondering now if they aren't pumping up....

I work for a living. It's flat tappet lol. I've had this noise from the very first fire of the engine. It's in the truck build thread. This video was the original start up after the cam swap.

  21. Sorry about this buddy. Fom the video its loud. Hard to say, but I would stat with lifters- valve train.:(

  22. I tend to agree with others in that you likely have a lifter problem. But, you asked, yes, I’ve seen the center of a flex plate break and cause terrible noise.

Building a sprint car chassis for my museum. Sort of like a streched midget. Circa 1950. 38 Ford tube axle. N O S 2023-05-30 16.17.25.jpg 2023-06-15 19.55.13-1.jpg 2023-06-15 19.55.13-2.jpg Halibrand 2" open tube rear end. Super nice Halibrand kidney bean mag wheels. Ross steering.

Lloyd, I'll always advocate for the big block! But your new cam may have enough lift that it pulled a rocker stud out.

I've checked all of that, can't find anything out of the ordinary.

  26. More early Barracuda fun, I’m slacking taking pictures on this one but got all the shift rods built and started to sort out some wiring.

Took the old truck for a road trip to pick up some seats for the Barracuda, about 250 miles round trip. More to come.
