I am new to the 671 roots type blower I am trying to diagnose a sound and I need to remove the belt off of the blower. But I have no idea how to work the tensioner to release it. Any help would greatly be appreciated
I’m pretty sure it’s just a big bolt in the middle. Loosen it and slide the pulley wherever you want to slide it.
You appear to have a "Pinch bolt "on your idler arm. Jut loosen the "Pinch bolt", and the idler arm will swing out of the way. Do the reverse to put it back to where it was.
See where the slot is cut in the big round part of the bracket? The pinch bolt goes through the cut, holding the parts together, when you tighten it, it pinches the circle a little bit smaller. Oh...make sure you understand how to set the "tension" on the belt. I use the 3/4" deflection when cold method. so you have 3/4" between the straight line, and the deflected belt, when the engine is cold. When it gets hot , the deflection will be about zero.
I adjust my blower belt when the engine is hot then you don't have to worry if the adjustment is right when it cools off...
Can you describe the sound that you're hearing / trying to diagnose?? OP you said your New to Blower/ SuperCharging , A half way decent Blown set up can be like a Instant Shot of "200 hp" & more when it comes on /makes boots & can become a Hand Full , catch you off guard especially if you're not familiar with Instant Torque
No, just blown away that a 69 year old "car guy" had no fucking idea what the term "pinch bolt" meant, totally serious here and I know I am not alone. Glad you asked the question tho, instead of screwing up an expensive blower par.
Jamoke, I guess there's two dicks as you'd think a guy that uses an NHRA sticker as his "avatar" would know at least a few things about superchargers. On the plus side at least you had the courage to ask for advice.
Some pitman arms also attach with the pinch bolt method. Ususally through a groove in the sector shaft.
