@Bearing Burner I found where Rich commented on the 28 chevy engine site that He used 265 pisyons and rod bearings.(post 1146) And he had told me that the mains were Allis Chalmers, not sure which ones. Try for a CA model. Good luck!
Kevin Pharis thanks for the pictures! This is giving me inspiration for my Model A banger hot rod
Haven’t checked in here for a while… Been busy moving halfway across Canada and general life stuff! anyways is there anyone that can give a little advice on a small problem I’m chasing? Car overall runs great, good power, runs at a steady temperature in all conditions apart from at steady partial throttle (cruising speeds) I’m getting a slight misfire. Motor specs are as follows- 5-600 miles on a fresh rebuilt (trusted builder) Touring camshaft Stock head Fsi zipper distributor Header Stromberg 97 (can’t remember jet sizes now) 125’ over Lightened and balanced flywheel with v8 clutch timing has Been checked over and over although that was a while ago and I’ve completely forgotten where it was now. I did play around with jets a while back with no real difference at partial throttle compression is perfect I took it for a quick thrash yesterday and pulled the plugs to see how they are looking. It did idle for 30 ish seconds before I pulled them But this is how they all look any plug reading experts here able to see anything obvious here?
Hey Joe, Warren here from the Jalopy Jamup. I went to the Vintage Drags in Oxford ME, awesome time and I am going to Round Top in July. Are you going? I have the same issue with my engine. Hope we can find a solution here. Warren
Sorry fellas, no pics of the hill climb today, was too busy hangin out and racing up the hill. We drove bout 50 miles on yesterday’s road tour, and found some carburetor adjustment was necessary. I lowered the float level in my carbs a bit to make em a little less sensitive to directional changes, and they started workin better than ever! I only made 3 runs up the hill, but she didn’t skip a beat! My best time was 11.4 seconds at 48 mph. Not the fastest car on the hill, but better than most of the other T’s. Had lots of fun and didn’t break it!!!!!! Tomorrow is dyno day…
Short update on The Sacramento Coupe- it`s out on the road! I have put a short reel of it driving past my house sounding great ,I also ran it at Pendine Sands last weekend first run right off the (broken) transporter 67.08 mph ,fastest run 70.53 mph taking second in class. Not bad and I hopefully have built a reliable daily driver . https://youtube.com/shorts/5tyAXi7fQrc?feature=share
out w/ the old..in with the new - got the rebuilt diamond block back in April - .030 over 6:1 head cam is .302 lift .271 duration - v8 clutch balanced crank w/insert bearings - B carb and intake - this old truck goes like a rocket now - gotta do something about the steering as it sure gets squirrely when I brake that 40mph sound barrier...
Hey Jim, I was the guy that posted about 4 banger exhaust setups. Can’t wait to see more videos of the Sacramento coupe!
I would think your plug looks ok - the tip is clean - if its sputtering maybe try another condenser - just a thought good luck
Hi- small world lol . I have my recovery truck to fit a new rear wheel bearing in this week then I can get the coupe out and into the forest for some nice video (quiet with no dogs barking)
Sure did! Didn’t want to break it, so only ran up to 3k. It was still pulling (slowly) when I got out of it, and the fella was trying to get me to make additional pulls. Still runnin the dizzy from the flat head with the weights tied back, and think that’s why the curve flattened out at 2500. Really happy with the flat curve and power numbers
A few pictures from this weekend's FAST Santa Margarita Ranch Time Trials. We had wonderful weather in the high 70's. Three Model Ts and 5 Model A's . My hat is off to our very own Old Dawg who did a great job in the announcers booth providing history and commentary on each car during the day, and a special thank you to all the folks that makes this event happen every year as such a great location. :
Dan! Thanks for posting those fine photos! I cannot identify each of the cars in photo #1. But Jerry Sherman's car, with a roll bar, stands out on the right. Photo's #2 & 3 are of Bob Weitzel's car with the Rajo DOHC head on a T Block . Photo #4 show Dave Martin's Model A roadster and your Speedster in the rear. #5 is Weitzel's car again. Number 6 & 7 are of Dave wheeler's roadster. Number 8 is the Weitzel T speedster at the line; and of course the last photo is that of your beautifully turned out T Speedster. It indeed turned out to be fine weather and an event of which had plenty of struggles to get off the ground.. The ranch management insisted we take the 24th of June; which we knew conflicted with the Lincoln NE events. As it was; I can only count few of the regulars that usually come to this event; who towed to the Midwest. I found a proper P.A. system; of which the board of organizers balked on buying . I brought it along anyway. I'm thinking they might need it next year.
This was with my T speedster with the Akron-Hed and new Winfields. Yes, I run a tach. The tour day was the longest I have run this setup so far. Most of the 50 or so miles was run at 55mph (2200 rpm), and it performed very well. The plugs are just a bit sooty and no signs of detonation. I did lower the float levels a touch to correct some stumbling when making sharp turns. After the tour, I pulled the valve cover to check for wear… all was good!!!
