Howdy, Have a 26 Tudor that the front brakes have been converted to disc. Trying to figure out exactly what I have so I can replace the pads and 1 rotor is slightly warped. Can feel it during braking. Hoping that someone might recognize what kit this might be, our advice on how to research. Looks to be original T axel.

    Thanks in advance

Post the distance between the mounting bolts on the caliper. I just went thru this last week on a friends car, the distance seems to tie it down between the various possible choices.

GM being the most widely used in kits.

I am going to pull the calipers this next weekend, clean them up and paint. Will see if I can locate any numbers and check caliper mounting bolt spacing

There are about 3 different GM single piston caliper designs between 1972 and the mid/late 80's rear wheel drive cars. I'm thinking that you have 69/77 GM mid size, Camaro, Nova size calipers. Those are 7- 1/16 center to center on the mounting holes.

The Wildwood diagram for GM metric is below. 5.46 center to center. GM-Metric-Iron_Single_Piston_Floater-cm-lg.jpg

Thank you very much for the great information. Would I****ume that the hubs and rotors would be from the same GM era ?

Just an FYI, the hard lines are not supposed to end in mid air and the hose attach there. The end of the hose needs to be securely clipped into a hole in significant steel. Then the hard line can screw into it.

I'm guess the area you circled would be a bad king pin or spindle ??

    Thanks

Depending on your wheel bolt circle ,the rotors could be Camaro or Volare -Aspen.

To me it looks like a Model A axle (has lead a tough life), with 40 Ford spindles.

I know your topic in this thread is brakes but can you show us how the rack and pinion steering is hooked up to the column?

Looks like the calipers are mid-size chevy 69-77.

Would it be safe to****ume that the brake rotors/hub will be the same ?

    Thanks

No. It’s very common to pair up rotors from something entirely different.

    Hello
    take a wheel off
you have dual drilled wheels in 4.5'' and 4 3/4'' pattern
IF the wheel bolts to the narrow 4.5'' pattern you are volaire rotor
raybestos part number i think 7032R
or specifically 1975 dodge charger to get a one year search
IF as I suspect it is on the wider chevrolet pattern of 4 3/4'' pcd
then you have the 70-77 chevrolet rotor
i think the part number is 5214R raybestos. - i cant remember
I suspect they are chevy rotors as they run a 7.16 stud and it appears in the pics that someone has run 1/2'' unf bolts through from the rear - no no

they both measure 11 inches in diameter
the chevy has a narrower hat than the volaire.
the volaire will be 1/2'' unf

when pulling the wheel take a pic of the rotor snout as its easier to see what you have
to be certain its the chevy or volaire
YOU MUST make sure you get the correct ones as the inner bearing cup and cones differ

pull the rotor off one side and look see if you have these on the spindles
    [IMG]

if you have you can run either brake rotor
you will get in a world of pain finding out what cup goes with the cone.

IF you run the chevy rotor and fit the volaire, you track will widen each side by 1/2 inch
the same happens if you are on chevy and fit volaire, you widen 1/2 inch a side

if that was mine and because its a 26 with high fenders and you can see in almost, it would be getting these
    [IMG]
oh and especially as you have stock spindles and could run the stainless*****on heads in at all 4 points......
you will probably spend 100 bucks on discs pads and bearings
that so cal kit is 720 dorra
plus you will need to have new m10 1.5 brake lines made for the banjo m10 to sae

oh and while I am on.....
the cotter pins holding the king pins in the axle....
the head on the side ion the picture has been sunken in, they have to be exactly the same depth side to side or else it is indicative of it being eaten by worn pins

Wow nobby! Thank you so much for the tutorial and GREAT information. You have helped me in my quest of these front brakes tremendously!
I feel confident that I can pull one this weekend and figure out what to order as replacements.

I am also going to look at the king pin situation you are talking about, do you think I need to invest in king pins ? Wanna keep this thing safe.

    Thanks

This is a great site. Everyone has sure been great about sharing their wisdom and advice

Going to start inspecting the king pins this weekend. What do I look for and where to find replacements if needed ?

    Thanks

With the weight off the wheel, grab and see if you can rock it up and down any. Shouldn’t be any slop at all.

There are hundreds of old Ford parts vendors that can sell you some 40 Ford kingpins. But after you pick one, ask here if they are reliable.
