That caught my eye immediately too. Trying rocking the wheel once you get it jacked up to see if you have any slop/play.

EDIT: Sorry, late to the party! Good information already! ;)

If the kingpins are bad, how hard are they to replace ? I know the bushings will need to be fitted to the pins once they are installed.

Also, I'm guessing from everyone's comments, will need 1940 ford pins ?

You guys are great for helping out this old fart. :D

I don’t know why you are guessing, I told you the 1940 kingpins were the ones. You don’t believe me?

I would not use stainless in that application. They are not even grade 5 equivalent. This is brakes and steering, not cosmetic. It's a time/place and application thing.

When you get new rotors; check the inner bearing race as the one that comes in the rotor is more than likely incorrect. The inner races are usually changed to match the inner bearings used in most disc brake kits.

Thank you very much for that information. I will make sure to check and make sure to match up with the ones I pull off.

please do not post pics of your steering parts here. Rack and pinion steering is off topic here, thank you

Yes Sir. I did a search and read a few post talking about racks, so thought it was okay. Sorry for breaking the rules.

Not trying to be confrontational, but just curious, if the 71 pinto racks are not allowed. Then wouldnt my original post about my disc brake setup on my 1926 Model T also be off topic since they are 73 chevy camaro items? Do I need to delete this entire post so I completely follow the rules ?
    Thanks

disc brakes are allowed as they are a safety upgrade in some peoples eyes. Look at the rules for the site here:

if they are the chevy rotors, when you get the new ones, the inner bearing 'cup' is the correct one - i think its 68111
BUT make sure, as it will all kind of go in
you do change the inner on the volaire rotor.
    i think, i can't remember
you SHOULD have bought the speedway chevy rotors drilled ford, as they come with 1/2'' unf studs in them.
but it matters not really, only in as much as you may need to now buy ten 7/16 lug nuts
oddly enough, the 'knurl' in both rotors is the same, so you can press out the 7/16 and press in 1/2 unf,

    post scriptum
IF you happen to have clearance issues with your tire and now split wishbone, or IF you r tyres are rubbing the wishbone at full lock, you could quite easily gain a smidgers more than 1/2 and inch each side by fitting the volaire rotor, the wheel will move out and may touch the fender, and the physical track on tire centres will move out, but you may acheive a greater turning circle.

you just buy them and use the 78 up chevy metric caliper
again again - the full circle caliper carrier locks into the spigot or register of the spindle
    what you have does not.
in as much as the threads of the bolts in both may fret the steel, some thing something
plus the cookie cutter natuer of this common or garden set up avails the aftermarket metric caliper being available in 7/16 sae banjo - SO you can then easily get the 'long' flexi brake lines - so your flexi line isn't pointing up and back

Thank you very much nobby for all of the great wisdom and information you have shared. Mine had the larger bolt patter, so I ordered the chevy calipers and rotors for a 73 camaro. ( from the part numbers you gave me) I'll check the bearings and race numbers on the old rotors and make sure the new ones match.
Getting new brake lines and the bracket that was missing on the right side.

For what it is, it actually handles fairly well. Alittle bump steer, but nothing serious.

Kingpins checked out okay. No movement. Had an inner tie rod bad, but ordered a new one.

    Have a great weekend
