    Hi All,

On my shoebox Ford with 350/350 there is a leak that seems to be right at the speedometer cable port. I had this leak on my TH350 in my C-10 and replaced the o-ring and the leak went away but I can't remember what the sealing surface looks like.

Does anyone know if there is no speedo cable assembly installed if it will remain sealed? I'm hoping I just need to take the one bolt out and replace the -oring and the leak will stop otherwise not sure if I need the speedo cable assembly and cut off the cable?

    Thanks,

Yes you do not need a speedo Cable in it to keep it sealed. There is an o-ring on the outside of that bullet and a seal on the inside that deals around the speedometer gear. Just that one little quarter 20 bolt comes out and then it should pop out

Awesome thanks! I remember replacing both of those seals on my TH350 in my C10 and the leak stopped but great to know I just need to replace those and the leak should be taken care of without needing the Speedo cable in it.

This the O ring and seal you are looking for. This Screenshot (1799).png Screenshot (1800).png just for show and tell as you should be able to get them at or through a local parts house. They should be about 6 bucks at the local O'Reilly's or other local parts house .

  6. The plastic gear does wear also, check it when you have it out.

Yes , I chased a similar leak and changed the seal but it didn't stop until I got a new gear in there. The gear further back is new. The one in front is worn out with a groove made by the seal itself..

Actually I read in another thread of someone using a Car quest part number CA 3004 speedometer cable that works with the TH350 and Ford speedomter. Will be interesting if I need to change the speedo gearing in the trans.
