Customs What do I add to make this look better?

    But , and this is just my personal opinion, you need me in the passenger seat telling you to drop it in low and mash the go pedal. :D Also without me who else is gonna find all the pretty ladies walking down the street to talk to :p

  4. Probably just me. But does anyone else miss the spear molding on the top of the fenders that has the parking lights in it? o_O

    Oh . . . And I'd add at least one more VentiPort to each fender.

    I would spray the car with a coat of super thin black paint to cut the bright blue.

    Maybe just start with wide whites and thin longish scallops below the bright side trim to tie the whites together visually.

  16. Need different. I'm thinking sky high street freak, with header pipes protruding through them holes. And neon lights underneath, to set off that paint job. I can't think of the name for those funny car spindle mounts. I think the name starts with 'k.' Whitewall square slicks on gloss gray steel wheels in back. And the flag paint job.

    The old theory of keeping it simple with the things you already have…

    Hello,

    Our dad had a 1941 Buick Fastback when we arrived in Long Beach in 1946. It was a used Buick and it did well on the 12 hour+ 800+ miles road trip from the Oregon border. He kept that Fastback Buick until the fall of 1948, when a giant 1949 4 door black Roadmaster was parked in front of our tiny Craftsman house on the Westside of Long Beach.

    As my brother and I spent many hours in that fastback sedan, we came to like the style and looks. But, it was just a form of getting from one place to another.
    upload_2023-7-4_3-33-2.png His 1941 Buick Fastback with a different look for his daily driver... 1941 Buick Fastback with a custom blue color as it was his favorite color. I drew what I thought my dad would have liked as we got to be teenagers. Custom skirts were added for the cool cruiser look. Simple lowering did the trick as far as style. Not a low in the back version, but level all around.

    He was a very active 20 something going into his 30s and college. So, over time, he had a lower back problem. This 41 Buick Fastback probably made the pain worse as he had to get into the driver's area and squeeze in place. But, I decided that if he had a front opening door, access to the driver's seat would have made it easier for him to get in and out, by sitting on the seat butt first. Then swinging his legs around to fit in place. The front opening doors would have made it easier access, getting in or out. (a process by design when my own knee blew a cartilage as well as a ligament injury and made my own leg entry difficult... )

    This time around, I had the basic Buick shape, but had to make some drawing changes to a 1949 version. Similar, but different. I even put one on a slight rake. Skinny whitewalls did not take away from the Skylark Wire Wheels as wide whites would. Just enough simple changes to make it a nice custom car.

    Now, that would have been nice. In 1963, our dad liked my 58 Impala with the modifications done to the drums/axles. I put on a set of Buick Skylark Wire Wheels. So, I already knew he liked the shiny wire wheels.

    But, he had his thoughts on wire wheels and it would have taken too much work, balancing/aligning them as he drove to L.A. every day.

    For your 1949 Buick fastback sedan, the thin whitewalls give it style that does not detract from the Skylark Wire Wheels. The lowered level stance shows attitude and if an early look is wanted, perhaps simple scallops with a color to give it more of a cool 40s-50s look. If you decide to modify your doors,(or not) I left off the handles and made it one of those early version door mods from the days of a hidden button for opening. YRMV

    I say "gook it up" with every possible accessory you can find...visor, dummy spots, chrome etc.
    My wife's old grocery getter Panel would get twice the attention than my '32 would, when we took them both to a show!
    Incidentally, those are 80 spokes with Port-o-Walls...and my avatar ('36 Cabriolet) is also running Port-O-Walls.

    Questions regarding the quoted attachment, if you will: Do you have a version of Microsoft Paint that allows for a selection to be rotated by inputting degrees? Or did you redraw quite a bit to change the stance?

    That picture is actually of a scale model set of wheels, but I'd guess those are the 2" whitewall. I also really like the red white and blue inserts on the spinners on the example that Dan Hay posted above, that little detail makes a difference I think, keeps them from looking like ordinary, generic wire wheels.

    Try some different photo's, the initial photo angle makes the front loom large, almost to the point the hood looks as if some major pan cake surgery is in order, the suggestions all have some merit, particularly the red version & gold one as well with the factory lower rocker & stone guard trim, then of course I'm surprised no one photo shopped flaming fireballs expelling from the port holes, the wires are one of G.M.'s finest, add the whites & a lower stance, just yet another opinion!

  28. It's hard to tell how the car's setting, going by the profile picture. I feel like I'd have to see the car in person and probably in action to get a good feel for the car's presentation. I don't know what BJR's ideas are for the car, nor if he wants to post them and/or more pictures

    The car is growing on me, the more I've looked at it. And, had anyone else noticed the photographer in the picture? I just noticed.

    Hello,

    I use an early version of Paint that came with my Alienware 17 laptop. There is a more powerful version of Paint. But I can't seem to get into that version. Old age, familiarity with the old program, hand drawn original sketches and the new program somehow do not mix in this old brain. KISS is the old Microsoft Paint.

    I had to copy/redraw the whole car and put in the wheels in a lower portion. Then hand draw the wheel well openings and make sure the bottom of the rims do not touch the ground if a flat tire happens. Ha! I cannot get the lowest stance like Dave Bell without looking awful. So I gave up and am satisfied as to the lowest normal wheel measurement I can get.

    I usually am satisfied with the lowered stance. But, if I want a lowered rake, I have to make a photo image of it. My photograph program from Microsoft allows me to adjust any photo I take or create, as to angle of the image. The photographic program is standard on all non Apple computers and laptops.

    Apple has their own photography program and it, too is very good. I have used those programs and they are better in some ways and difficult in other ways. For now, I am sticking to old familiar ways, just like being an old hot rod guy with ideas from the old brain's history. Familiarity is good for the soul. ha!

    I am not a free hand artist like some of the others. I just love to spend an hour or so trying to capture some memories and history in my so called "art." I need help and that started in junior high school with odd ball shapes of cars and crooked designs. I just keep plugging away with what is provided novices like me... YRMV
