Awesome abone. Looking forward to it. So, what number model 40 5/w is this? #3?

Looking forward to this build, I thoroughly enjoy your builds and the fact that you post them on the HAMB so that I can follow them.
    Do have some questions though.
    1. What is the TKX 5 speed trans and what did it come in?
    2. What happened to the 55 331 Cad block that you got for $100 and where did the 390 come from?
    3. What happened to the 33 5 window with the blown Pontiac, surely that was a keeper?

The TKX is an aftermarket 5 speed made by Tremec so dudes like us can do 80 on the interstate at 2200 rpms. I have the earlier version, the TKO in two other cars and they are fantastic.

The 100 dollar 331 block is still living in the garage but is relegated to back up plan status. The 390 came from a '62 Coupe DeVille in a local boneyard and is beautiful inside and standard on the bore and crank.

The blown 33 lives with a buddy of mine locally, so I get to see it at Hot Rod Lunch all the time.

Thanks, guys for all the kind words, I hope it lives up to the hype...

    See ya, -Abone.

Here is the car that gave up her 390. She came from Temples Auto Salvage in Batesburg SC. Fantastic yard with thousands of pre 1970 cars.

Something really important is the center section being far enough back so that 5 spd overdrive trans will fit and you will love it when you cruise. 31" rubber connected to a 3.73 9" Ford will jerk you out of the hole yet slide down the interstate at 2,000 r.p.m.s turning 70 m.p.h. Our Deuce roadster highboy is set up with the same stuff and it's super on the highway and very spunky when the light turns green. Good luck, Bud. Don't be concerned about the soreheads on here with their flathead-powered, bar hopping rides ! You have one of Henry's finest body styles to ever see the road.

I'll be watching this build also, as I'm gathering parts for my '34 5 window also. Sounds like we have the same ideas on some stuff. I have a Winters QC, '56 365 Caddy and will be running a Tremec TKK also

I still dream of building and owning a car like this. Since it probably will never happen I'll just watch here and live vicariously through what you are doing. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to you progress.

Great; those Cads were easy to find in the 50's/60's, then forgotten. Newc

Hey, Terry. On a completely unrelated note, you are the reason my Model A runs 10.50s not 11.50s.

@flamedabone I believe the TKX is available with wide or close ratio....any thoughts on what you will going with? rear end gear? tire size?

I got the "normal" ratio transmission, whichever that one is. Pretty sure it is the same as the TKOs I run in my other cars, but either way I'm sure I will like it. The big deal to me is the tall overdrive so I can do 80 at 2000 rpm without having to change the gears in the quickie when I get to where I'm going. The rear tires are about 30 inches tall and the gearset will be a 3.48.

I had this same basic set up in my old '33 with about 700 horse and it was fun as hell. This little engine will make about half of that but should still be a good time. We'll find out...

I like this! I've recently gotten a bad itch for a 35-36 something 3-5 window coupe. This will scratch the itch for the moment. Looking forward to follow this build.
