Hello, For the folks visiting the Westcoast and San Francisco proper, sorry, but you missed out on one of the most iconic restaurants on the whole Westcoast of the USA. It is/was the farthest city property that jutted out into the Pacific Ocean. The views were outstanding, although 90% of the time, the weather was "jacket time" for protection from the ocean influence and good old fog. The highway in front was pretty slick going at speed rounding the steep curve and downhill drive. Since it was at the peak of the curve, it was a nightmare waiting to happen every day and night. The view and distraction was not forgiving. But , the ambience and food was pretty good as far as somewhere to go. My wife and I spent every time we drove up the coastline to San Francisco, at this place for lunch or dinner. It was just one of those places that never got old for the feeling and great food. Parking was hectic as the speeding drivers made it so. But, once inside and/or walking around, it was all good. In the very early days, our dad had stopped here for dinner with the whole family in our 1949 Buick 4 door Roadmaster. That was our first introduction to the cliff top restaurant. He really wanted to see how far out the rocks went into the ocean for some good shore side fishing. Since we stayed in a motel in Ocean Beach, just up the road, it would have been a nice beach outing, even in the fog. Avid fishermen can’t stop searching for good places to cast a line… Jnaki In one of our S.F. road trips, here is our El Camino parked a few miles inland from the Cliff House Restaurant during a rare sunny day. The coastal homes+ cliffsides, kept a lot of the daily fog out of the city. But, when it wants to, the fog is relentless, comes far into the land area, and across the Bay anytime it wants to do some damage. Note: The Cliff House sits on federal land and has gone unused during the pandemic, despite the efforts of the current tenants. The federal government now wants to allow contract bids with new companies to take over the long time business site. So, will it be called the Cliff House as history has shown? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...no-explanation.1143737/page-734#post-14746651
Makin’ apple butter. “Once around the side & twice through the middle. That’s the way you stir the apple butter kettle.” Toss some pennies in to keep it from sticking. A copper pot must be used NOT an iron one. Internet scores with ignorance again. Have done this many times in the nation’s first apple producing area.
