IMO, The engine and engine compartment should be an entity unto itself, yet, blend with the rest of the build. That doesn't necessarily mean it has to be color coordinated. ;)

SBCs have been jammed into '32s since 1955. that's 68 years of people doing it.
While there are common, popular colors, I'd guess that darn near the whole rainbow has been used at some point. Pick a color and do a search for "Small block Chevy (color)" and see what you like...
I don't understand why the question was posed.:p

It was black when I got it so I just touched it up. Hard to find something that would go with Tahitian Rose body color

Mine is a SBF, but I went with gray also. Ford used gray in their 80’s trucks and vans, good looking medium gray.

Here's a thought, my 250 inline six is painted Rust-Oleum industrial "raw cast" gets a lot of comments at shows and cruise ins.

I was kinda embarrassed t0 admit it, but I confess that Ford gray is the color I used on my SBC. Is that sacrilege?

Does leaking brown oil all over everything count as a color?

The inline six would get a lot of comments regardless of colour because it’s different. Sbc is just another sbc no matter what colour it is.

  15. For a split second you tricked me, I thought you had an AMC 327.
I like the Rambler badges (I have a soft spot for AMC's for some reason).

  16. With my model A pickup (I know it's not a 32), I want it to look like it belonged in the southern California cruise scene circa 1960 roughly. My goal is for it to look like a young guy's car (low buck build not like The magazine cars in 1960 but a real clean beater/driver, So if it has a few small dings or imperfections it's okay) and because of that I want it to look like the engine was just pulled out of a wrecked brand new 59 or 60 Chev (The engine really is a 283 1959 El Camino engine) so The goal is to make it appear super clean but stock other than a set of headers and a Corvette air cleaner so it is "pumpkin" orange with black bits and white shorty hooker headers.
If I remember in the morning I will get a picture of the engine sitting on its HF furniture dolly taking up space on my to small garage floor... I am still torn if I made the right choice on Chevy Orange because the truck is going to be a single stage Case tractor red And I'm not sure if the engine is going to look right but I don't really want to take it back apart and repaint it so I'm going to live with it until I decide I'm not to lazy to redo something.

Anyways in my personal opinion go with whatever color you like As it is your car so go with what you think would go good, I am not necessarily a purest but I really like the look of a traditional car and modern stuff needs to be hidden in my opinion or used sparingly. If you look at the cover cars of hot rod magazine from 1953 through about 1963 All colors were a go, There are lots of reds, lots of yellows a fair amount of chev or mopar orange There are even a small amount of flake engines starting to come into Vogue by about 1960 (although still really rare). The one rule was it was usually bright fun colors that kind of flow with the look of Chrome and polished aluminum that screamed look at me bullet bra girl I got an awesome set of wheels. You are not going to see hot pink or a 1970s Root beer brown on a 1950s or '60s car but other than that it's pretty open to your personal interpretation.
If you go back to the 1940s it's hard to tell what color was used because all the pictures are black and white but everything usually looks more muted and reserved because it was all about going fast not necessarily looking cool It's when Johnny the hot rodder was coming back from the lakes that he influenced the neighborhood kids and made them go well I want one of those too when I grow up and within about 5 years they were old enough to start driving and they were building hot rods but they were more showie. You could argue that it is when hot rods really started going mainstream and younger guys started building them to get noticed by the chicks that they started making flashy colors and lots of chrome bits at the magazine's fed the look at vice versa.

  17. I painted my 1960 Rambler 6 banger this color. I thought it looked nice and it was different what's funny is I had a guy ask if I had a Continental industrial motor in it lol

What ever colour you want. But there is nothing you can do to make a sbc in a 32 interesting or a standout in a 32 roadster. Probably more common that white Toyota's.

  19. Really. That's what you bring to the table? It's a broken record man. And it wasn't a hit in the first place.

I just used a function on here that I knew existed but never felt the need to use before. I gotta tell ya it's slick......it's the "Ignore" tab. You just go into a member's profile, click on it (upper right hand part of the page) and viola.....no more rubber stamp, white Toyota comments. Cool! Can't ever see using it again but a very useful tool when sensible reasoning and all else fails.....and it's international to boot.;)

I like the black/alloy/bits of chrome look. Reminds me of those old WWII Allison and Rolls Royce V12 aircraft engines.
The color scheme I hate is "Skittles". Painting every component a different color - red water pump, green manifold, blue valve covers, yellow block.....ick.
