Nope, not me. I'd hang my garden hose on it.

So the arrowed bit isn’t cracked as well? If it’s very rare in some way, maybe , crack test then see if a wheel reco place will warrant a repair there,
    Not rare go buy another.

I wouldn’t trust it. 65mph on the outside of a curve and the unthinkable happens.

No way I'd bolt that on anything I'm driving. Just not worth the chance.
I blowed up the pic, I saw "Japan" in there so not magnesium.

Get it welded if rare. If not hang you’re airhose off of it.

  10. Good advice. DON'T use it except to hang an air hose.

    Ask yourself this one question.
Is the sum of your life one cracked wheel ?

There is only one thing more rare than that wheel and that's your life.
That wheel has gone around more than you ever will as your life only goes around once.

Looks like they let the gorilla run the tire mounting machine, again. I wouldn’t run it.

I would only recommend running this wheel AFTER you name me your sole heir and beneficiary.

We build and drive these hot rods because we enjoy the experience. Speaking for myself driving a car with a repaired cracked wheel would take away from my enjoyment. It’s one thing to have a part fail and you coast over to the side of the road to fix it. It’s quite another to have a catastrophic failure of a part that may result in an accident that may affect you but also others resulting in death or serious injury. Your mileage may vary.

From the pictures it appears there is more than one crack. Are the cracks a result of the crack propagating from a casting defect or the result of impact, mounting damage, or misuse. Either way it should be scrap or conversation piece.

I would be ok running that wheel. Until I saw that it was cracked. Then I would probably not run it. I even have little faith in a repaired crack at the rim of an aluminum wheel. I know the people that fix them should know what they are doing, but what if he is having an off day!

Eric Vaughn/Vaughn Machine has repaired countless damaged aluminum wheels over the yeas but I'd bet he wouldn't touch this one?

I'm thinking no liability insurance is involved with that company or a couple of guys salvage operation in that video.

When lathe operators don't wear safety glasses, it's just a matter of time a lathe operator or someone running those wheels is going to lose an eye or their life or both.

I stand by my original statement........

  25. I am a welder fabricator by trade, and I will not weld any wheel going on a street car, it’s not that I don’t trust my own work, but because of the liability.

If the car it is on is involved in an accident, catches fire, a meteor hits it, and someone is hurt or killed is it it discovered it had a wheel that was damaged and repaired a lawyer will find a way to sue you.

I didn’t see anyone get hurt in that video. :p Those guys are obviously professionals. Amazes me the things that get fixed and how in some places. And, yes, I have been there to see those sort of repairs on the road.

Yeah it's no good. I think the wheel was stuck on a hub, and it required some force to remove it. There is no other damage. I bought it last year when I was piecing a wheel set together. The crack was not visible until I ran a polishing ball through the bore. I think there was some primer on it.

That wheel was most likely cracked using an old tire machine that had an arbor that came through the center of the wheel and used a cone against the center opening to tighten up, and hold the wheel down. Works fine on a steel rim, but not so much on aluminum ones. I worked at an old service station in high school and it had one of the old stlye machines and we were not allowed to use it on the aluminum wheels, since that type of macine had been known to crack aftermarket wheels.. I had bought a used set of Cragars for my 68 Firebird, and wanted to take the old tires off after work. Threw the wheel tire up there and tightened it down and heard a slight pop, didn't think much of it, took the tire off the rim and pulled the wheel off.....sure as***** i cracked the rim right where the center cap went......lesson learned.
This is the style of tire machine to steer clear of with old aluminum wheels. listing_pic_1134637_1452539452.jpeg
