Hello, I'm new here and as suggested; creating an introduction. My main purpose though is to get opinions about my avatar options.

I'm 66, born in the great year of 1957, though traditional Hot Rod guys would probably think a 57 Chevy is too new. I have loved cars my whole life and like everyone have had my favorites and have those favorites change as the years go by.

I have restored a 1957 Bel Air to a street machine kind of level (maybe resto mod is a more current description), then a set of circumstances laid a 69 Z28 Camaro on me and I did a fairly correct restoration on that. I got the bug for a Street Rod and sold the 57 to build a 33 Highboy. This is one of my current cars and is a replicar fiberglass body (Downs), aftermarket chassis, some billet stuff. and independent front suspension. I then traded the Z28 for a 40 Ford Deluxe coupe (one of my favorite cars since a very young age) And I'm building a 32 Highboy, Fiberglass body but super bell axle, Buick drums, hairpins, wire spoke wheels, 4 piece hood, 25 louvers sides and a 54 Desoto Hemi and a Winters quickchange.

Being that most guys here seem to be traditionalists (and I have a high amount of respect for that), Would an avatar of the 33 make me persona non grata, or is it OK? Or would an avatar with the 40 (which is Henry steel including frame, except for that which is not, like the rear fenders are fiberglass and it has a Chevy small block)....be more appropriate for the viewing public here? Or should I just grab a cool image of an old race car or something.

    What do you guys think?

@33CarGuy nice resume there. Hope you stick around and show us your goodies.

  4. Welcome to the HAMB from Illinois.

Can you get a photo of the 33 that doesn't show the non traditional front suspension? Also they watch for non traditional wheels here.
I'm glad to have you here.

Just get a random picture off the internet of you racing your car, that's what I did....

    :)

or you can take a picture of your new more traditional build, and change it as the car gets more done.

Perhaps @swade41 can assist you with an appropriate avatar. He has the best taste.

Welcome from NC. I think that maybe you are putting too much thought into it. Just use whatever old timey car thing makes you happy. Hell you can change it out any time you feel like it too!

One of the cool things about the element of the avatar, that you can post here on the HAMB is that, its dam near limitless, and its a great way to express your self or your attitude as the mood strikes you.
There are a lot of great personality's on this website as you will see.
Some of my favorite people are @Lloyd's paint & glass ,@anthony myrick ,@theHIGHLANDER

@VANDENPLAS @J.Ukrop @squirrel Just to name a few, this online circus has a lot of great people on it.
So be creative and use your imagination.

  19. Heads up, pineapples don't grow in cans. :p
I suppose if you're not used to seeing them growing...:D

  20. I took a picture of my piece of junk the day it came home It works for now as my project progresses I will probably change my avatar... In years past, I have a picture of my '50s Dodge pickup, My 1960 Rambler and I think a Dodge Touring body (that got stolen).
Myself I say any picture is better than no picture but the site is geared to traditional cars although some newer stuff is accepted it just isn't talked about. (5/6-speed transmissions, 8.8 axles, Dual reservoir brakes, vega steering).
I guess you could say that it is more of a look (no billet wheels, monochromatic street-rod stuff should be displayed).

Thank you, I get it, that is straight to the point and no nonsense.

I didn't come here to post anything about my builds, just to understand traditional builds better. There is a lot of good info here. I was first introduced to it by a guy named Gary who is Quality Engineered Components. He specializes in Mopar's especially old Hemi's. He has posted info here and sent me to this site when I was building the 54 Desoto. As I stated, I respect the traditional....out of that respect I would like to have an avatar that does not "offend" those sensibilities, or brings ridicule (or rejection ;-)) to myself.
