installing the new radiator in Plan II. I'm making some simple saddle brackets for the bottom, and still thinking about how to do the top.

If it's like the one I bought from Eastwood it does do bubble flares.

  3. I'll have to youtube it to learn how to do them, might be handy for slipping rubber hose over.

I'll check tomorrow to see if I have any instructions. Can't be too difficult cause I was able to figure it out.

On swade41 fitting problem, Most radiator's I see like his, that bung is probably a pipe thread. I would be surprised if that had a seat in it for a inverted flare. You may need to get a brass adaptor, 1/4 pipe to 5/16 inverted flare.

  7. Well, be prepared to be surprised and you guys that liked his comment too, there it is.
It also revealed the problem, it pulled the threads out, fitting screws in and out without issue but it sure looks like it's missing some threads, after a Google search this seems to be a hit n miss problem with Champion radiators and they will repair at no charge but you have to pay shipping both ways.
I in no way over tighten the line either just snugged it up, leary of over tightening it because of it being aluminum, to bad the lower bung wasn't like the upper one to not have these issues.
Anyway there's the seat for the inverted flare

dammit, I wonder if you could drill and tap for NPT and put an adapter there? Might be a bad idea because of shavings but maybe you could hook an air compressor line to the top hole with a regulator maybe 15-20 psi to keep the chips out???

Well that is a first for me! Never seen that, but then again, I don't deal with many alum radiators.
Like Moriarity said maybe you can save it by going to a pipe thread and a adaptor. If you did want to tap for pipe, pack the tap with grease to keep the chips stuck to it along with air blowing out.

Damn! It don't even look like the thread's are deep enuff!

  13. I ordered an external cooler yesterday, I'll just plug these holes to keep whatever fluid is in there in there and not out under the tires.
I thought about epoxy-ing a fitting in there or having a AN fitting welded in, but decided it's not worth the hassle of not knowing if it's a for sure fix or the hassle of pulling the radiator then buying more AN fittings and lines and figuring out how to attach them under the car.
I'm ready to wash my hands of this frustration lol

I needed a break from working on important stuff, so I'm seeing if I can get an old clock to work. The odds are really slim, of course.

F3FC35C7-131D-4CF4-8539-297C67211FB2.jpeg I’m working on tuning this paint up. Would you believe it’s almost all orig lacquer except the nose and two fender tops. I’ve wet sanded the enamel blend off and am resurfacing w real black lacquer. How’s it look ?

  19. That's the plan if it doesn't knock like a woodpecker or smoke like a freight train.
For now it'll get the Dominator II that I epoxed that corrosion damage on.

Radiator bung , drill and retap to NPT as suggested . Install a Sweglock fitting and never look back . If it’s 5/16 tube Sweglock has no fittings for 5/16 . Just retap , seal the new fitting with locktite and done . Grease the drill bit and tap , grease will hold shavings if you drill slowly , and don’t melt the grease .

  27. Looks great from here! I need to do the same to my car again. :( I had to let it sit out in the sun a few weeks and the original paint sure died back again. Anyone know a good way to keep old dead paint shiny? My car doesn’t seem to like to hold its shine too well anymore. I can make it look great by buffing it, but doesn’t take long to die back it seems. And, it is real thin on the hood and tops of fenders similar to what it sounds like that Caddy must have been.

This was about 4 years ago showing how bad it gets and is again...
