I did a little exploring on the original door panels that had been on the car. Apparently I was right on my guess about when the chocolate brown upholstery was done...smack dab in the middle of the 70s.

The repair job is interesting, someone patched the speaker holes with red vinyl, then covered it all with brown. There is thin sheet aluminum over most of it, and the screws to attach the panel were replaced with metal clips (more big holes drilled in the door to poke them into, of course). I guess times have changed.

5 minute epoxy and broken off match sticks works great also!

  3. We had an old 386 at work that we used to do our college homework on, it ran Autocad 3.1 for Windows. It wouldn't do 3D modeling (using primitives) but it was aces for 2D work and somehow compatible with another CAD program we ran for work. Then IT grabbed the PC and the 3 discs wouldn't work on a newer PC.

That's because they're license plate fasteners. Only smaller. They are used on my Chevy II to retain the headlight bezels, among many other uses on many cars.

These little fasteners also pop into a square hole, if you used them for their original application. But they pop into a round hole, if that's what's available. Pretty clever design.

Here’s a couple of pictures, the corvette hole repair is on the left and has a round shank. The lic plate nut is on the right and has a square one. Or am I comparing 2 different things??

I used them on the door cards on my 56, I had good luck with them.

Interesting, it's a different design. I was thinking of these little things.

I bought one of these for my Vette, works great. It plugs into Cigarette lighter and transmits a blue tooth signal for your phone or iPod and you tune it to an unused FM station (88.5 for me) and it transmits through the radio and car speakers. Nice sound and no signal interruption, I use it with my phone and listen to my own playlist, Sirius app or I heart radio app. Saved me from cutting anything up. Plan to run it in the 65 Plymouths too. Had to run to work yesterday and listened to kFI From LA while cruising top down in the Lexington area.

I never did get the AM radio working as an AM radio, so the FM converter I bought is just sitting there doing nothing....

Can't find them on any of the websites...thanks. Bob

    yeah, that was close.

I got the wipers working, now if I had the rest of the parts to put the soft top on, I could have a nice weather resistant car.

Waiting for new brakes to arrive, then I'll see what kind of a mess I've got myself into.

  17. The square offering works good on the first C10 door panels, when the square nuts break out of the door, just pop those in and hammer down! So..... squirrel is gonna go from a 9.89 time slip to destroying a 57 Chevy carrier..... I feel like I need to witness this! :D:D:D

Sadly other than a few boosted stations, anyone try AM in newer cars? All the electronics sing unfamiliar songs:eek: Sounds, well I said fuck it for my car. Been saving an old badass Crossfire 600W Amp and speakers for a long time. I shagged a reasonable JVC with Bluetooth that I can hide. If you ever attend a meet somewhere and some old dickhead is pounding base in an early Tudor it's probably gonna be me:) Got a way kool idea for the subs in the trunk, and no I'm not telling y'all, so there. No I'm not taking us off topic, sound systems are part of a midlife crisis aren't they?

I have been using these inserts for years on my corvette restorations. They work great
For door sills and door panels. I got tired of stripped fiberglass holes and this is a great
    Long term fix.

Meanwhile, the new brakes arrived, I'm installing them. And the new little slicks are here. And the carpet. And some of the parts I ordered to fix the seats. So I have lots of work to get done now! and Janet said something about the credit card bill.....oops

It pays to have a separate account for emergency use.
