Projects Customizing a Factory Custom?

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Jive-Bomber, Aug 3, 2023.

  1. Even the convertible top is awkard, both in up and down positions.
The easiest fix on a convertible is a new trunk line and a Duvall style windshield or a lowered chrome frame windshield.

The term "factory custom" confuses me, always has. Customs are one of a kind, not mass produced....

Cut it up it’s only metal and it will make the remaining cars more valuable to those who prefer stock , boring cars

Do not ever customize a 63-65 Buick Riviera.

I repeat - do NOT ever customize a 63-65 Buick Riviera.

They are a work of art just as they are.

I'm having a similar problem with my 1960 Merc ragtop. I would like to customize it but everything is already done. So I put a set of cragars and narrow white walls and called it done.

I'd agree that the stock top on these is a bit clunky. The slim body makes it look even taller than it is. They never built a three window coupe, so that's always a good place to start. Lowered the rear deck and lowered and raked the Continental spare. Actually a veed windsheild would probably look good too.

I have always despised the 41 Continental, compared to the 39 Zephyrs .A clunky misfit in my eyes ,that missed the mark. What James D pulled off there with his photoshop ,allows me to see the swan. So ,who in their right mind would take a 55 Eldorado convertible ,and do the Wack? Any takers?

Beautiful. I'd lose the spare, make it a boat tail and make the top retractable...and a supercharged Zepher 12 cyl. Oh, and a golf club door!!!!

I like that. But I wonder if the inference behind the look and feel of the stock greenhouse isn't that of a practical car for a speedy and comfortable dash to Nice?

Oh absolutely. I make no pretence that I'm caring about anything but the looks, form over function. In my defence, there were Lincoln Zephyr three window coupes. Horses for courses and all that. That stock greenhouse goes in the direction you sometimes see on older upmarket four door cars, where the styling of the car appears designed to make you look at who is sitting in the back seats and not at the lowly chauffeur driving them. The type of thing where the roof appears to go uphill to the rear of the car, as it's all designed around maximising rear passenger comfort and headroom, at the expense of everythign else.
