I have a rear axle that I bought as a package out of a running/driving car. The owner was making some upgrades so I was able to get it all at once.

I can use some help, I've researched but still haven't found a 100% answer.
Anyway, the engine/trans is a 350/350. I think the rear end is a Dana 44, which seems to have been used in a few types of cars. I found a post here that is very close to what I have, the difference is his is a Dana 23.

These are the markings I found on the outside of the pumpkin:
    US PAT 1968618
    A Part Number 18419
An 'A' in a circle with a 44 next to it
    10 Bolts

    On the Backing Plate:
    302597

    All help is appreciated!

    The pictures didn't come through.....

(we can do a lot better if we can see what you can see)

Also, with a rear that was used in lots of different vehicles, things like wheel bolt pattern, type and location of mountings, U joint type, and especially brake parts, help immensely to figure it out. You didn't give us any of that info.

Many guys here (not me) can ID it with a few pics rather than casting numbers. I didn’t look the D44 over closely that I had, so won’t comment on the 44 casting.

Also you can usually get the year by removing the back cover, and carefully reading the stamped numbers on the ring gear. Pretty often you'll find a date, as well as the gear ratio.

Could also be a BOM number stamped on the one axle tube, but finding what that means on older rears is hit or miss, mostly miss.

Wait, in today's realm isn't identity just a social construct? I mean, can't we just...:)

But seriously, what is the bolt pattern and brake system? What kind of car was it in? Do we know if it was the OG from that car? Inquiring minds wanna know. And, AND, we wouldn't wanna mess up what it really is.

Quick edit; this may help. There's a lot of uses that might spark some ID...

It's ashamed of always bringing up the rear and wants its turn up front...
