  2. Is there a live audio feed today? I’m not seeing one for Day 3 on landracing.com

The Bass car is one great looking race car. You wouldn't expect anything less from him.

Yeah, it went down yesterday and hasn't come back. That's too bad.

Wow that's pretty fast for a small Flathead, but it is on fuel

  9. Bummer! When I can't make it in person I always like to listen to the radio feed while I'm at work. Any idea if they were able to move the course to get another mile, like they were talking about yesterday?

It's a 4-cylinder Hemi, not a flathead. In fact it's a Donovan Hemi with one bank of cylinders instead of two. Really neat looking engine. I believe he's still shaking it down and licensing, which is why his speeds are still low.

do they have a class for that motor now? i'm assuming it's based on the donovan 5 main B block.

Rick, the motor is one half of a Donovan 417, It is NOT the model B block at all.

"Roadster" classes are based on displacement rather than number of cylinders. They also separate the Fuel and Gas entries and supercharged and unblown engines. There are exceptions including vintage motor classes and something called "American Iron".

As Stan and Jim referred to, it's half of a V8 Hemi. Not a 4-cylinder engine design and not a flathead. Engine classes are by displacement, as below. This car runs in F as it's half of a 358 Cu In V8 which makes it 179 cubic inches.

A family friend that raced at Bonneville did the same with a Buick V6. Seems to be a land speed thing to delete half the pistons and rods.

    Edit:

Maybe these photos help illustrate what we're saying. While not great, you can see there's a plate in the place of the cylinder head on the left side of the engine.

Don't want to derail this thread but I've seen pictures of the motor and it looks like plugs wires running to the block off plate on the driver side. What would that be for?

Looks like they're running a V8 distributor/magneto, and there appear to be plugs on the other side (from a video I saw), so they may just be dry-firing the plugs to keep the firing order?

You’ve all heard about the conditions. Kudos to SCTA for making anything happen at all. I went with 5 others, including 4 first-timers. I stayed long enough to watch a few runs on Tuesday, but the rest had to leave earlier. Still had a great time as a 6th-time spectator. Saw Gene Winfield, met Burt Munro’s granddaughter at the Black and White bar (yep), spent quite a while at tech inspection at the airport, and of course the get together at the Nugget. Here are a few photos from the trip.

The last picture is a chair I painted up and gave to the first one our group that found the 1971 picture of Burt Munro on the wall at the Black and White bar.

    Giddyup.

Alex Taylor is heading back tomorrow in hopes of setting a record after being gone today for some work obligations. The car has it in it, whether she can hook it up on the short course they've got will be the question. It will be in the upper half of the 200s if she can get it done.

We watched her video of her run at Bonneville and then I showed my wife a video of her making a 208 mph pass in the quarter in the 55 and she looked more comfortable in the 55. I think her comfort level will go up a bunch tomorrow though.

She posted another video today of her C and B license passes. She'll be trying to license up AND set a record tomorrow.

  27. Here's a photo with a better view of the "blocked-off-side" of the 179 cu. in. Unblown 4-cylinder Donovan HEMI in the #199 Bass, DeRuvo, & Eshenbaugh F/FuelRoadster:

A local engine builder made the trek with his old Ford truck, I don't know how he has done but just getting there and[IMG] being able to run is quite the accomplishment.
