Yes, I agree and I need to update a photo of the car as they fell off somewhere when I was out for a drive thank you for the confirmation that I don't need to go back and hunt for them....
So many thoughts here.. Years ago , I would drive my stock Crosley station wagon to a car gathering. The Crosley had 4 hubcaps with Crosley name and logo. Crosley crest emblems on front and back. I had custom vinyl Crosley logo on 2 side windows. 8 places on the small car said Crosley Usually the first question I was asked? What car is that? Its a 1951 Crosley. Most folks had never heard of a Crosley and could not read I guess?
Drive/build anything you want and call it whatever,. What REALLY pisses me off is “ATM machines” and “hot water heaters” Other than that, I’m easy.
Damn, I must have missed the sensitivity training, political correctness, redundancy and remedial spelling seminars. At least, my cat was On Topic in this thread.
No feathers ruffled here or by any of the other comments about spelling or grammer. If I occasionally mispell a word due to either a brain fart, a dexterity malfunction, old timers disease or just plain stupidity on my part.....well thats who I am, and I'm happy with it. And if thats the only thing I get criticized for (it isn't), then I must be damn near purrfect.
In a similar vein, the other stance that's funny is "you're not a real hot rodder if you buy pre-fabbed parts". Yet we celebrate the guys that make those parts. Not everyone can do everything, and especially in suspension components, if you're uncertain with your fab skills, buying can be best. Many guys on here buy pre-fabbed chassis for their A's, yet the refrain is silent in those cases (as it should be). It makes me laugh. Still used them in Canada, though. My Canadian 28A has Robertson all over it. I was in my 46 GMC, about to pull out of my parking stall leaving a swap meet. Guy blocks my exit in a new Jeep. He comes over and says "My friend really wants to buy your truck." I say "Sorry, it's not for sale." He keeps incessantly trying to give me his friends contact information, after several rounds of "Not for sale" finally I say "Save your energy. I built this truck myself, I'm really proud of it, and I'm not selling it." He says "Oh." And walks away. I find it funny that people say "everything is for sale" as if their money is more valuable or a person's ownership of a car means nothing to them.
How a bout the popular comment: I have a XXXXX car just like this at home, but it does not run yet. I respond: Get in my car, lets go look at it, I want to see it ... after more than 3 decades Nobody has taken up my offer. Never.
Isn't this the same thing we commonly call a "Phillips" head? Just wondering why its called a Phillips head when someone named Robertson invented them?
The Texas DMV can call the cars anything they want, because my registration fee is only around $50 every five years. And I don't need to get safety or emissions inspections. I can also use vintage unissued license plates.
Ahem: For those who don't have a clue as to how screwing got started, here are the definitive answers. You're welcome. Archimedes screw: If it hadn't been for Archimedes wanting to move water uphill faster than a bucket brigade, none of this would have happened anyway.
someday a young person will actually have one. ive been that kid before. was at a car show talking to a couple guys, one with a 57 chevy and one with a 39 ford. if he offered something like that i would have gladly taken that offer to help me get it started. it was in this condition when i said that. i had only vacuumed it out, replaced the drivers side glass, and stuck tires on it. this was September 2021. i was scared of breaking something with the starter. plus it needed pushrods, plug wires cap, etc
Bad mouthing people because you don't like the way (or where they got the parts) people build their car. To me it reminds me of the Porsche club guys who get they're panties in a wad because someone changed a nut that didn't come from the factory. If your not having enjoyment in yours or others builds it may be time to find something else to do as this one upsets you too much.
I have all the proper emblems too and...........Who made that? Crosley. What model is it? Crosley Sedan. I guess I should have known...
Nope, Phillips is a cross. Robertson is a square. The Phillips head was actually invented by John P. Thompson, but Phillips brought it to the mainstream. Peter Lymburner Robertson is the Canadian inventor of the Robertson Screw and Screwdriver.
I don't know why we have essentially standardized on Phillips head screws. When I used to work on electronic test equipment, Hewlett Packard was typically THE standard in the industry. And their instruments used posi-drive screws. Looks like a Phillips, but the slots are much more secure to grip. When using the correct screwdriver, it's very difficult to round out a valley in the screw head.
Australia has a lot of Robertson head wood screws. Having said that, they’ve really only made their presence felt in the past 10 or so years. I had to get some torx sockets when working on a bmw. That car is gone now (thank god) so I’ll probably never use them again. I use these hex socket head wood screws in various lengths all the time.
