I was in a restore project with a 1962 Impala SS that was from the west coast, it's was quite the treat to work on. It was a 238 P/G, we fixed that with a 460 inch stroked 409 with a 4 speed.

Adapted an after market steering wheel to the column in a 47 ford truck, it took quite a bit of machining to remove enough material to get the wheel to fit where the nut could be tight. IMG_1585.jpeg Resized_20230810_200413.jpeg IMG_1595.jpeg

Do you have any other build pics of that truck? I have just begun working on a 1947 Ford Panel and looking for all sorts of ideas.

  10. Unmasked the stripes this morning, going to give the car a quick scuff and put a coat or two of clear on it.

  18. And in todays and yesterday's, and the day before and the day before that and the day before that adventure that never seems to end the truck is almost rust free. (Oh so close) After I remade about ½ the Pickup Rear U-Channel (that I am not super happy with it but it will work for a driver, I am not trying to win any shows Just have a nice truck without bankrupting myself but I digress). Anyways I decided I was going to make a simple "roll" (There isn't a roll in it) pan because I really didn't want the stock type 31 tail lights and license plate hanging off the sides of the truck bed, I think when I done with the finishing bodywork and I put a Nerf bar bumper thing on the back (that I need to learn how to build I have no clue what I'm doing) it will be totally presentable and look era correct-ish.
Also I need a license plate light, something that I can put on either the roll pan or the rear U channel hanging down but not where it obstructs the license plate that would illuminate it nicely if anybody has any ideas I'm all ears. Sorry for the funny picture angle I'm underneath my little easy up awning thing. Tomorrow I intend to get the tailgate mounted and get a feel for my handi-work I just couldn't do it anymore in the heat these 100F+ (about 38° C) degree days about 6 hours and I'm done. I have a mechanics swamp cooler and it helps a little very little when it's this hot. 0815231558.jpg

Isn't that counter-productive? Replacing thin or holey or nonexistent sheet metal with heavier "new" metal. Won't that slow down a drag car?

These (4 LED Round Auxiliary License Plate Tag Light - 4 State Trucks) are available new and boneyards used to be full of them since many cars came with these or similar. As I haven't been hunting in a salvage yard since many moons ago I don't know if there are any out there to harvest or not.

True, but I have more tune up tricks to cover the added weight to get where it was running.

  24. That's funny I was thinking the same thing. I seem to remember them on rear car bumpers from the '60s and '70s not to mention truck step bumpers. If no one comes up with a "look at this" light that blows me away I will be using 1 or 2 of these hanging down from U channel I think.
I need to play around with one to see where the light that is emitted actually points to but I think it would work also.
    Thanks for the link.
