Pull the spark plugs and squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders and let it set for a few days before you attempt to crank the engine. Check the ignition for obvious problems and maybe install some new points and condenser and clean or new spark plugs. Buy a can of ether for initial start up. Maybe one of those cheap spark testers so you know its getting spark. Then worry about getting fuel to it.............after you know it will crank and spark.

  3. fortunately this is not my first rodeo, i used atf/acetone on my '57 before starting it and it was cheaper than marvel and worked perfectly.

i plan on using a dish soap bottle full of gas instead of ether, cheaper and i have them lying around instead of going out and buying them

Just saying that the first trip over there may be wasted if you don't plan ahead a little. Its a PITA when you just need one little thing that you didn't plan on and the whole day gets wasted because you have to chase a part down or the engine just won't turn over................:D I like the ether for that very first spark ignition because it always fires with a spark, where as I have flooded engines that were cranking slowly when trying to use gas. Its personal preference for me just to eliminate one more chance of me screwing up.:)

  7. Put a 50's 235 Chevy Carburator on it, the O/G Ford Carbs are N/G. And add dual exhausts.

I was wondering if anyone was going to get to the "problem" that caused the truck to be parked in the first place. Thanks Marty, saved me the trouble!

Younger brother's '50 Merc got a '39 Ford tranny because of this problem. (short tranny required a 5-foot+ driveshaft)
Tranny mainshaft was '50 Ford pickup, with the rear housing/slip joint....

  17. would a long tail housing t85 work? that would shorten the driveshaft up
