I left the body on my Model A as found. I did the chassis and drivetrain put it back together with some interior upgrades and enjoy the shit out of. I’ve done and owned nice finished hot rods and I enjoy this car more than any of the rest! I didn’t build it to any period I built it because that’s what I liked.

  2. I like “perfection”
sometimes things are perfect with imperfections.
Perfect body work, gaps and paint costs time. Lots of it.
if I live long enough I’d like to do all that on one. But not all over em

I thought this thread was about vintage stuff, not new creations.

There is a difference between survivor, patina and as found condition. Not fauxtina and the dreaded rat rod abominations that still pop up.

I never get round to paint. I love the idea of nice paint, but I hate the prep and am no good at it. I would struggle to justify the money of getting a pro to do it. A poorly applied amateur paint job looks worse than no paint at all to me.

  11. we painted my buddy Steve's 48 Desoto metallic blue with a Kirby vacuum cleaner. The paint went on so dry that it was flat blue metallic. LOL I painted my motorcycle with a pump bug sprayer once.

I think what we see are combinations (conglomerations?) of different looks. The tools and skill set is really top shelf now and we see builds that are old style but of a quality that was an impossible dream. Those who have arguments and pass judgement probably will never "get it" and life's too short to engage. Odds are there's never been a "V8" logo inlay applied to a 39 dash glove box door. So what? Are the trad police gonna git me? Bring it. There's no way that someone knows EVERYTHING that was or was never done. How many clobbered up angle iron shit box hot rods have been extracted? Several. The unhip wanna drop to their knees and either blow the guy who found it or declare it a holy grail and be enlightened to "how it was" based on that 1 car. Sadness. Not everything old is perfect or holy or a standard. Some shit is parked because it sucked back then too. Reality is a tough sell sometimes.
