Yeah, it's a great picture of a 'Vette flat towing a '55 150. Not a hub cap in sight.

Such a great shot, but, to the unwashed public........this may require some explaining!

  5. Ohio racer Gordon Collett in far lane, I think. Great racer passed in 2022. Just came across image and thought it was killer. Can’t imagine tuning a pair of Hemis.

I think I would have raced the 'vette and towed it with the 3 ton tank.

55 sedans are about 3300 lbs.
You ever notice from back in the late 50's/early 60's you saw so many 55 Chevy sedans used as push cars, maybe I notice them more as I am smitten by 55 210's.

I could not find the axle cost but probably around $15 or less. Question on the #93 car; why is the centerline of the engine [crank] end up so high above the centerline of the rear axle?

Seb, I should remember, as I wrote the story, but that was 10 years ago. Jack is closing in on 95 years old, and if I called him tonight, he would know exactly what the axle cost. I also have the recording of my interview with him, to reflect on, but $16.50 plus freight sounds right. He is a good friend, and lives a little over an hour from me. He is the one who took the now famous picture of Clarence Everett's Flathead powered 67 SS Camaro. Jack is in the middle. IMG_4211.JPG

As for your question about engine height, the car was built in about a week, he still has the remnants.

The port sizing on those early Pontiac kids are humongous!
