I've had a tarp up as a divider in the shop since I was painting the roadster three years ago, in order to help keep sanding dust and overspray off stuff in the back. Some of that "stuff" was my '59 T'bird, which needs another coat of hi-build primer, the new gas tank installed, glass cut for the side windows, cutting down the quarter windows to match the new, chopped roof line (the hardtop is removable and off the car now), and the interior put back in.
With the shop divided I could ignore the car setting there, being used a storage shelf, but I'm tired of the tarp, tired of working around stuff that's accumulated in the front half that should be in the back (or thrown out), and now the T'bird is front and center. Hopefully that'll inspire me to get busy, put the thing back together and figure out a color. How about either early 60's gold or lime gold, or simply jet black?

Gold with a pearl white interior has been in my head for a while. Early 60's vibe.

That bird is way cool. Since you're asking, I'd paint it black and add some (very) conservative gold pin striping for accent. But it will be beautiful whatever you do.

    Lime Gold!

I'm lovin' it -- but (that's what they call me, but), are the seats in the final position? They sure look cramped.

  8. I need to get a tarp to hide my unfinished/stalled project(s). Genius !:D
It’s depressing, to see them sitting there, frozen in time. :(
At least you make a lot of progress on yours!
I vote gold with pearl white panels.

Bright lime gold, w/wht interior(already there?). Maybe w/gold accents. Not exactly lemon/lime, but kinda the idea w/brighter colors/shades.
But you know, those front seats, back seats, & trunk areas are sooo nice for storing things... :D .

I'd go with black, but I like subtle. A set of the wires like the ones on your roadster would be perfect. Maybe a set of narrow whitewalls. .Not a whitewall guy as a rule but something about these cars makes them look right to me. Just my humble opinion. If you disagree you will likely prove me wrong.
My dad had a light green '58 coupe with a 352 he swapped for a 430. That is one of the cars that led to the car sickness I have to this day. There were many others but this was the first one that made me realize all cars were not equal in the performance department when I compared it to my grandparent's 6cyl Belair. I'd like to get hold of a restorable squarebird but everything I've seen around here is terminally rusted. I did my last rust job over 20 years ago and said I'd never do it again. If I ever was to do one, I'd probably duplicate my dad's for the sake of nostalgia...my version of a time machine.
Whatever you do, if it's half as good as your roadster it'll be dynamite. That, along with the quality of work you did on the wagon leads me to great expectations.

  18. Brian,
I'm a big fan of painting a traditional hot rods & customs in OEM colors of the period they're emulating.
It gives them instant credibility. Customs look good in luxury car colors, like these '61, '63 and '65 Caddys.
    Just a thought...

That's cool, but that Watson panel paint has been done (Billy Gibbons liked it ;)), and I want to be different. Just like everybody else...

Thank you. I'm glad I got it out of hiding, makes me want to get to work on it again. I think I've built about 8 cars since I took the paint off it, so it's not like I haven't been busy...;)

  27. Glad to see this one back in the limelight. This was one of my favorite threads until it got sidetracked... LOL.

Color? My vote is something bright and/or rich/intense. Stay away from earth tones and anything pastel. If you really want that early '60s vibe, metalflake with the BIG flakes! Woo Hoo!!!
