My wife and I will be coming over to the USA in September and I (not so sure about wifey) intend to go to El Mirage for the 10th September meet. I have booked a motel in Adelanto. I'm just wondering how easy it is to find the SCTA track. Looking on Google maps it looks like one whole lump of empty! Will Google maps find it or does any one have a reference that would. Silly question time, are there likely to be any sources of food and drink there or should I take some with us? Any tips or pointers much appreciated. I've only been waiting 50 years to get there! Thanks
It's officially named El Mirage OHV Area, managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). When you enter the OHV area there is an entrance station where you pay a fee. To your left is the dry lake, you can't miss it. When a race isn't scheduled the entire area is open to the public and you can drive on the lakebed. On race weekends you'll need to pay attention to the signs and the race course. El Mirage OHV Area | Bureau of Land Management (blm.gov) It can sometimes get very windy and dusty and if it has rained recently, they will cancel the meet to protect the lakebed.
The signage on the El Mirage Road is easy to find. That's the only road in -- about a 1/4 mile to the lakebed. Probably best to bring your own beverages and food -- and less expensive.
We had a pretty bad storm couple weeks back they brought about 8 in of rain nearby and the place was flooded, I don't know how bad it is out there still or if it got rutted up. I'm friends with some people in a couple of the clubs and they say it might not happen so keep your ears open and check the scta website. If I hear anything in remember I'll try and post back to this thread
Best place for up to date info is to follow the SCTA page on FB. Anything else is just scuttlebutt and rumor.
So it should have been course prep this weekend. But since it's not happening, there is the venturea national's car show at the Ventura fairgrounds . I'll be there Saturday in the 41.
