I has try find out who has this coupe as I would like to know messure on chop, ex side windows. Anyone knows owner or shop that did this great work. The chop is just perfect. All I know is ( Tony T ) and nothing I has find more of on internet.
Big bang theory perhaps? Has lovely cars but is no longer here iirc. Appologies if I've got that wrong. Chris
His name is Tony Tierney, from Michigan. The car was featured in Hop Up, but all it says is the body was already chopped when he got it, no details.
Thanks. Will try locate him up. I’m after distance in side windows door and body. I had my coupe chopped way back in time and it need to be redone. Its a 3” chop. Look Ok but not that ’angry’. ( race car old style, solids wheels, hot FL and no fnders and in black ) I has a friend that had his 5W 4”, but I has also been into 6/5.5” tilted front window but leaved that idea. 4” its on the edge to get out of propotion. So now I’m back after the ’most best’ design, but this is just personal taste. -So is it a hair more than 3”, but after see this car its a Very nice shop. So I’m qurious to know the window height.
Can’t you scale the picture? Take your doors and measure the wide and tall and scale them to the picture and you will get the chop. It’s just simple math the ratio of the known door to the picture and then you can figure out the chop. Just using a triangle ruler on the 1 and 5 picture I measured a 4 inch chop.
Well that can be done but its not that accurate get int spmit s inch. I don’t think its a 4” chop. Look at chop&dropp’s coupe it’s 4”. Its a very narrow number get into the angry coupe from best propotion. I might found Tony at Insta. Lets see !
look in the HAMB classified. Tony is looking for Chrysler hemi water fills, and in the for sale section Tony has a M / T 6-71 blower manifold, and valve covers for a Chrysler hemi.
Its almost impossible at classified as one can’t search. No answer yet from Instagram. Would be very nice to see that side window height as car has a perfect chop so tolerance is less than 1/4” I sould say.
1/2 an inch more…… looks like 3 & 1/2 inch chop. Looks the same as mine, (give or take a mm or two) - which is 90mm. 3&1/2” inches = 88.9mm you could probably blow that picture up and scale it off the rest of the body as reference. .
Do you or anyone has a std distance on a 5W. Inside frame distance or glass distance ; -Front window. - Rear window. -Door windows. -Side rear windows. How much is A pillar leaned back get this look.
Thanks, got in contact ! So far I know that the pilars are leaned back. Any ideas on the lean back the pilars ? What is the general ideas on do it or not. My car has std angle so roof must been extended, or ? Its a very ugle ( wide ) weld but I cant see any extra material added there. I think a tiny lean back is nice but it can’t be much, max 1/4” or 1/2”,
The amount of lean is only what’s required to make the posts match after you bring the top straight down. If you already have a stretched chop, it’s silly to redo that and make it lean now. Basically have to undo the previous stretch, then do the lean. I’ve never seen or heard of anyone shortening the top to add extra lean to a 32 coupe windshield.
This is how they did on my car ( 3” chop ) Might to a re-chop and lean back pilars. I think the Henry welds is to right.
Yes, that’s the original fusion weld to the left of the garbage done during the chop job. Since your chop is so sloppy, I would not call it wasted time if spent rechopping.
Looking at the original photo, it looks like the A pillar only leans back from about half way up, but that may just be light reflections from the camera angle. I scaled the photo above and the photo I have of mine, and the height versus window width is the same on both side windows. So I am still saying 3 & 1/2 “ chop - give or take a millimetre or two………..
Good eye ! ( thanks ) It might be why Tony T say he would not do lay it back ? ( it was a old chop ) either way lean back ex 3/4” is nice y and shore its a 3.5” not a 4” but next week we know. I will get the window numbers. -I’m really enjoy see that chop !
Since that pic is a nice side profile shot, & the height of factory louvers don't change, scale those, & then the height of the side windows. Blow the pic up in size if you need more to work with. Marcus...
Its very hard to scale from a picture on a screen. My door is **708 mm wide at the door handle and the rear side window 254 mm. If a std coupe is 13" tall there this is at 10" so chop is 3". ( 1" = 25.40 mm ) If I scale the door on picture at the screen the door is 45.8 mm, but add up eyes, caliper end, door springs etc so its ruff and not easy or will never be correct. I like to hear on some mm tolerance, this is ruff at say around 0.5" plus/minus at the best, hard to get it better. But **708 mm / 45.8 mm = *15.46 mm. The picture show me a side rear window at 17.3 mm x *15.46 = 267 mm ( 10.5" ) So my way do this I get a chop at 2.5". But it can be 2.75", 3", 3.25" or 3.5" but not 4". One told me see this my car he mean it did look more chopped than Tonys. I can say its not a 4", but I it will be fun hear about true numbers ! Just a note. I do what I feel look Ok on my car but as this coupe is a good example on a great chop it would be fun hear the chop. Most talk on inch at chop but how was the distance on glass to be ? That's what get my attention. EDIT ] Did scale upp picture and now I got chop to 2.8" as I got it the side rear mirror at 10.2" and if a std 5W is 13" it' 2.8" chop ( again = ruff )
Question, Was common back in the days to keep the roof and angle half of the A pillars ? I can't say if I really like that idea as front window will be hard to close. Can also look odd, but can look cool if it was common. I then can't say if a std piillar and extend roof 3/4" is best or some degre angle to get a std roof to fit the lay back pillar. I seen how they cut it upp below window ( to angle the full A pillar. Lay back is cool but I'm more into keep it std. -What is your guys comment's ?
I think the suggestion was to download the photo and print it out, and then scale it off the print of the photo, not trying to scale of your computer screen..!!
Well I get the true numbers next week, I’ll was just playing on screen and its not 2 inch and its not 4 inch by just ’look’.
If you look through your old Hot Rod magazines from the era you are trying to emulate, I bet you’ll find most, if not all 32 five-windows were chopped straight down. I don’t think slanting the posts on 32 five-windows became a thing until modern times.
Yes, thats what I begin to think to. My chop was done way back and was a straight chop and I start enjoy it, but I has to clean it up - but I might not need re-chop just get a wizard fix it nice.
The first several 32 coupes and sedans I had chopped the body shop stretched the top and didn't slant the posts. It's only my last couple cars, the 5 window and new sedan that I had the posts leaned back.
