Hi, I am trying to ID a Borg Warner T10 that appears to be from the early 60s with a cast iron main case. Please provide any info or insight you might have. I have seen some vague sources that suggests it is 1961-62, but I that doesn't jive with the same sources that say they switched to aluminum case after 1960. It isn't clear from the internets whether that just applies to corvette, in which case this seems to be a Chevy passenger car trans. If possible, please post sources for your info so others can find it as well. Thanks in advance. Main Case: T10-1B; W.G. DIV.; 01 Main Case tag: M-1-C Main Case top stamp: WA91-2 Tail Shaft: T10-7D Tail Case #: 3813490 Tail tag: R-2 Tail date tag: 9 10 62 Input Carrier: (W) T89B-6 Input shaft: 10-spline with 1 groove
Back then, the all aluminum T10 was a Corvette exclusive. Full size Chevrolets and Pontiacs got a cast iron main case.
@HEATHEN is correct on the aluminum main case. Your case was cast on Dec. 1, 1960 you can see the date in this photo and the stamped code (WA91-2) next to the side cover shows that transmission was assembled by Warner Gear on Jan. 9, 1961 on the second shift. M is the 13th letter but they do not use the letter I in the date codes as it might be confused for a number 1.
The ‘61-‘63 Pontiacs had a longer tail shaft and t/s housing. Here is the Pontiac version Your tail shaft housing has a Sept 10, ‘62 casting date but anything could have been changed in 60+ years.
