Art & Inspiration What car do you think had the nicest factory interior?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56don, Sep 5, 2023.

  1. I was just looking at the door panel thread started by HRP and got me to remembering all the nice interiors that the factory used to put into cars before all the plastic cheap crap started coming out. I always loved the 1963 Galaxie XL interior.
Which ones do some of you think were the tits? Post some photos.

  2. Thunderbirds and those XL Galaxies of that time period were pretty darn nice.

  3. Any Chrysler product from the 40’s - 60’s had the nicest dash boards .

A family friend and my across the street neighbor for a couple of years when I was first married in Texas had a 64 Galaxy 500XL that was turquoise with a white interior that to me was maybe the best looking factory interior in an American car I had seen up to that time. She was the office manager at the local Ford Dealership and I didn't know how she came up with the car as I met here in 1969.

I agree with '63 Galaxie XL. Roomed with a newlywed friend and his bride summer of '63. She had a white XL convertible with the same interior that's in your picture. When they wanted the house to themselves, she'd throw me the keys. As long as I had it back the next morning in time for her to go to work, everything was okay. I thought the girls were hot for me, but it turned out it was the car. Loved that car, best summer of my life. :D

  8. I get what you mean but the irony of showing a interior that is completely covered in vinyl and then commenting about cars with plastic interiors made me laugh.:D

    I couldn’t agree more.
Wall to wall chrome and very tastefully executed.

Any swivel-bench seat era Mopar would get my vote, but especially 1960 Plymouth and any year Imperial. This '60 Imperial with the square steering wheel and giant pod gauges is fantastic.

  12. I'm partial to Pontiacs. This one's a '55......... (sadly, it's not my car, however)

When I was 15, my dad had his '55 Olds serviced at Town's Edge Oldsmobile in Hopkins, MN. It was after dark when we went to pick it up, and while my dad was settling his bill, I saw a new '57 98 Holiday Coupe sitting outside the service department. I went over to look at it, and the person who was with it asked me if I wanted to sit in it. Did I! The lights were on in the dash, and when I got in, I felt like I was sitting in the cockpit of a fighter plane. It probably wasn't all that good, but I still remember it after 65 years!

  14. Picky picky. I knew when I posted it that someone would point that out. But you know what I mean, everything in the new cars is plastic.

  15. Not to be contrary to our resident MoPar freak, um...er... supporter, but I wouldn't go as far as the '60s, but late '30s to mid '50s they definitely had the nicest dashes.

I've gotta find some interior pics from my Dad's old '55 Buick Roadmaster. I always loved the interior in that car.

Edit, these are from the web, but are exactly like his old car.

Late 50’s early 60’s T-Bird. Just the back seat alone stands out for me

  21. It's not very hot rod'y, but I'm going to cast my vote for 50's era Cadillacs

...one more vote.. coolest seats ever came in the 1964 Impala SS. used to be one in town with a silver interior, but I prefer black.
