Now envision this: instead of hauling the boat with the trailer, just build the lower portion as a boat. Drive to the lake, drive in, engage water propulsion system, and Bob's your uncle...

There’s a hotel over here that’s separated from the mainland by the tides. Theyve had something similar to get across since the 1920s

    And the current one.

A dropped axle could fix that.

  7. It looks to have a scissor effect in action. 2 planks of metal attached to the spring, crossed to the opposite perch?, with a bolt through the center "X". I think it also looks to have some bar connecting the front and rear axles?.

Giving the fab guys some props. Not necessarily the conceptual guys though. Yikes.
Sheck out that wheel building ingenuity!

The fronts of the A sedan are A spoke wheels affixed to tractor hoops.

the fronts on the modded Forty Ford sedan (a crime I tell ya) are a fairly crafty truck wheel adapted with large flat steel spokes to the tractor hoops. When I worked in a bike shop I built a ton of spoked wheels. It aint brain surgery but it's an exacting process.

  11. Can't remember if Model Ts had cross steer or a push-pull drag link to the left spindle, but in either case I'm not sure how he worked the steering linkage on that thing.

The dualed-up 1.5 ton Fors was actually an offering from Marmon Herrington. MH converted Fords to 4wd as a factory-authorized accessory.

Just incredible how people did what they needed to do back then ... you can see in the back ground there was a horse & wagon and another truck going through the same situation.
This guy clearly had it under control using his brains and labor.

How does the car in the original picture steer? I don't see anything that looks like it would turn the front wheels.

  21. Maybe it's like the old cogwheel wagons like when we were kid's, they use ropes tied to each hub,, pull the left wheel rope and go left, pull the right rope and you turn right. HRP
