  8. It's really great that this car was restored back to it's original version. That being said, it would have been a huge task to put it back as it was originally built, after it was built like this. I saw the car as it sits here, at an indoor car show in Washington DC as a young child. It was really cool to see it sitting there. The pearl white just sparkled under the lights. I'm really glad I was able to experience the car shows at such a young age, Probably 7 or 8. I'm also really glad I still remember this stuff.

Could be. I've asked the question before somewhere, if anybody remembers a similar car called "The Pollution Packer". It made an exhibition run at National Trails Raceway, Ohio. I think. I've never really had much use for these type of vehicles, (wheel standers, jet cars, etc.). They pushed it to stage it. When the tree came down, it sounded like you were standing next to a jet taking off with afterburner. To say I was impressed, would be an under statement.

“….if anybody remembers….” the Pollution Packer, well after seeing it at Broadway Bob Metzler’s Great Lakes Dragway in ‘72 or ‘73 believe me it wasn’t something you’d forget. It was a hydrogen peroxide rocket car and was scary quick and fast given the limited shutdown area at the Grove. I don’t recall the times but it must have been in the low 5’s at or near 300 mph.

Maybe the times were juiced a bit to thrill the crowd, but it was easy to see the difference between the rocket car and a fuel dragster on a good pass. I only remember the Packer running exhibition passes by itself at the Grove and I doubt the car had any competition, he would have made the jets look silly.

I saw it in the 70's when "Slammin Sammy" Miller drove it, I remember 359 MPH. Looks like, Dave Anderson drove it 4.62 @ 368 MPH !

  28. My first ride in a hot rod was in THAT car in the early '60s. Thanks Lloyd!
