You honestly believe a retailer is going to ship you parts with no way to recoup their cost other than your " ***urance" that you'll send back saleable parts ? You've never bought parts & opened the box to reveal used/damaged/greasy parts that some not so honest soul " returned" on their word ? My , you're a trusting soul . How about " I send you $1000 because you told me you'll send it back " ? Good way to go broke .
What northern is doing is more than equitable .
If you schedule your work ANTICIPATING the delivery of a correct , on time order , you're "Counting your chickens before they're hatched"

Summit has done exactly that for me. (Sent replacement and a return shipping label).

Can we at least specify who you’re talking about?

I’ve seen northern listed two or three different ways in this thread.

per the ***le I’m ***uming northern auto in Sioux City iowa.

if so I’d call and talk to someone else, that’s a very small business. Maybe they can send you a return shipping label and when the wrong parts get back to them they’ll send the correct parts.

like @2OLD2FAST mentioned just sending you the right stuff and hoping You send back the mistake is a losing proposition most of the time.

Years of success and one bad experience can burn a bridge. I get it. But I think I’d try calling again.

Northern Tool is an entirely different company.

This is Northern Auto Parts. I ***ume it’s the one from Iowa. I ordered Chevy parts fro them back in the 60s or 70s.

  7. Lloyd, I agree with some of the others. Send a copy of everything posted here. Let them know how big a potential customer base this could be if they "Manned" up. If only 1 % of the HAMB members were going to buy there that is a lot of customers. Tell them "remember, bad news travels fast" There are always other places to spend your money. I was in business once, and myself and my partner never gave a customer a hard time on a return. Like my father told me years ago " all you have in life is your reputation".

Do the part numbers on the parts match the part numbers on the invoice ? If yes, you are screwed, if no you have a case.

Take care of it and nobody thinks about it because it is expected behavior.
Mess it up and nobody forgets.

Just sent them an email to direct their attention here. We'll see if they have a clue.

I tend to turn a cold shoulder to companies that do wrong by my family, friend's, or me. Was going to use them for my next project, but that's out the window now! I'll stick with Summit.

I don’t use a CC, debit, but who knows.
I’d ***ume that Lloyd’s friend did the same, so it would stand to reason if Summit has my info, Northern would have his as well.

What a ***** way to treat a customer ! I bet it was a nice size order to $$$!
Even Amazon (which is 10 times as large as Northern) makes stuff right...Especially if THEY screwed up !!
Heck...lotsa times if the part ordered doesn't work or make you happy they send a refund and tell ya to just keep the part !!
Let us know how the complaint goes and IF they do the right thing....

One thing that is for sure is : if you pay peanuts your goin to get Monkeys . Last thing that I know is : if my name is on the door , it’s goin to be right , or it isn’t leaving out the door .

A mans name is his identification , a hand Shake is his word .

If you can’t stand tall for both , your nothing but common trash .

Enough for me , I get really upset , when good people are taken advantage and treated like fools

You're absolutely right and thanks for bringing it to my attention. I did mean Northern Auto Parts. It seems that my fingers had a mind of their own when I typed that and auto correct was taking a nap. We have lawyers on here, can Northern Tool sue me for slander ;)?

Northern auto parts. Iowa. It's over. Not my fight, not my money, just giving a heads up on the customer service and the way the transaction went down with my friend. He did not buy anything else from them, I was mistaken. And one man's bad experience won't hurt this company, because as I stated earlier, even though speedway gets hammered here on a weekly basis, I still buy a **** ton from them, at least the word is spread. Sometimes ya gotta spend $100 to make a $5 point ya know? **** northern auto parts, they lost my business, and my buddy that's just getting back into this will never buy from them again. And I ignore the 20ldfast guy, so whatever he said doesn't show up to me.

  20. So, one guy has an issue with a vendor and ya'all wanna boycot and bail on them but yet will still order from CPP, Hoffman, Speedway and Fatman............all companies with decades of KNOWN bad products and/or service?!

Nice of you to mention that !

  22. This doesn't make any sense to me. How could they possibly claim "he ****ed up" if the order clearly shows they sent the wrong parts?

I get that we are not hearing this directly from the horses mouth but I'd be (if I was the purchaser) contacting them directly, asking/demanding to speak to management and request that they clearly explain exactly how "he ****ed up" if the order doesn't match the parts sent.

I had a poorly cooked steak at a restaurant once ... I didn't complain, I simply never returned to that specific restaurant so I get that a bad experience means never buying from them again but this story just doesn't make sense. If the order is clear and correct and the wrong parts were sent ... where exactly are they claiming your friend "went wrong"?

    I don't get it o_O

Yup I don't base buying choices on the second hand account of one side of a transaction. Given the fact that they installed the bearings without verifying the were the right ones if I was a distributor I wouldn't be sending out new parts for free to replace either until I got the others back to see what I was getting. Always verify you have the right parts before installing.

  24. I got a great local engine supplier.
I had parts in the cart from nothern but my local guy was within $20 of nothern.
I prefer to support that local guy and it just 1/2 hour up the road.

  27. Northern is about as local as we get up here on the Plains. If I need I can have a buddy pick up my order on his way out here to ski.

If you have had good relationship for years it may be worth it to have your friend phone the manager/owner to describe the situation. This experience or situation could be one employee with a don't give a &@#* at***ude. Out of fairness for your friend and the business it would be good to air it out. That employee could be doing great harm to a reputable company without the knowledge or consent of the manager. If it is one bad apple then for the good of the business there needs to be a correction. Now this employee's bad behaviour is on the world wide web with this post. I get that this transaction hurt the buyer and with this posting may have done a greater harm to his employer. The company may appreciate the call and go a long ways to make amends on behalf of the company. I was for a couple years a manager and occasionally a stand in as senior manager on major maintenance events that went from 30 employees between events and into the hundreds for the 2-3 months of work. I was responsible for the work and the conduct of the employees. Once in a while there was one who could be a complete ***hat to the site owners supervisors or with other contractors. When I learned of the behaviour I did my best to make amends and take a corrective action. When another contractor or company supervisor abused one of mine then I went and talked to their manager. I was not looking for a head on a stick but some form of apology for the abused. They appreciated the conversation as they had a chance to correct the situation and had a chance to maintain good working relationships.
Have the friend talk to the Northern Parts manager in a calm manner to describe the employees behaviour. They may go well out of there way to to make amends. If he does not want to tallk then compose a letter and send it off. The employee's behaviour was bad but bashing the company because of one employee's bad conduct on the internet is not the best either. If the company manager treats your friend poorly then feel free to slag the company.

Lol Jesus, one damn rant about a bad deal and I'm a horrible *****? I've read tons of bashing threads on here, so many that it used to make me wanna hide under my bed! It's all good gentleman. This was the first time big Mike used this vendor, at my recommendation. And how the saying go? You only get one chance to make a first impression? He's done, washed his hands of it and ordered his stuff elsewhere. Like I said earlier in this thread, I still order junk from speedway, never have had an issue, I order from Johnny law, I use CPP products, but they've never given me any grief like they have others, so use northern all you like, none of my business. Hell I'm gonna go find a rodders journal thread and tell everybody to stop being a *****! :D:D:D
